You know, it's just occurred to me that there are hardly any birds to be heard at places like that - Newfoundland park on the Somme is like that - quite a small, but intense battle field (heard of X-Y Ravine?).. grass has grown back, but yu can still see the trench lines, and the shell holes.... and very quiet and still, as if the place is being reverent or something... Funny how the lack of birds didn't register when I went there....

The birds may keep away, but this cat quite likes the place though according to Auschwitz facebook group, she has been moved to a new warm safe home

He came back today! had a fantastic time, he took some really nice pictures of everywhere they went! I loved the Berlin scenery, buildings and statues are amazing!!!.... And he met some lovely people in both Berlin and Krakow.. As well as having a random snowball fight with some Polish lads who realising they were British started taking the mick out of their accents Mike said it was just good fun and everyone saw the funny side

He hasn't said much about Auschwitz and I havent really asked him.... He said it was totally weird but fascinating place. He also laid roses at the memorial written in English at Birkenau... He was disappointed he didn't get pics of his flowers though. His camera ran out of batteries and his phone was back at the hotel charging
