    Insurance advice

My car renewal comes up for renewal on the 21st May. Not only has it gone up by £200 (almost doubled), despite an extra 1 years NCB and no other change (money grabbing SOABs) but i am in a bit of a sticky situation with renewing it.

Long story short I finish uni on 21st May, and leave in mid July to move down to London where i will start working from Sept 1st. I will also have a considerably different car (saxo -> modernish mondeo type).

So what options do i have? I can start my insurance as usual, but then when i change my car start of july I'll have to adjust it with the insurers (being charged in the process, bunch of untrained thieves), then when I leave Uni, adjust it with insurers (being charged again, emotionless oiks) again, and finally when I start my job 1st September, change it again with the insurers (again, being charged...sodding useless creatures).

Each of these changes will likely cost me £25-£55 (based on changing cars & accommodation in the past) which im a bit unhappy about paying, especially as they have doubled my price this year for who knows what reason.

Can anyone think of anything I can do to sort this out? Best I can think of is starting insurance on car, cancelling it before the 2 week cooling off period runs out (legallity?) as hopefully ill have/be borederline getting a new car then and can at least knock off one lot of charges.

All im contemplating at the moment is hunting them all down & burning them at the stake! Bunch of swines.

Shop around - and find out what the quote would be for the Mondeo, and also look at the change charges that would apply with the different companies. You may pay a little more for the current car (or maybe not) but shop around. Remember that some companies will give you a bonus discount just for moving to them.

    Re: Insurance advice

Best i can get for my new car is around £520 with my current insurers, More Than. I'm still furious it has gone up by so much though.

New car (Citroen C5) is providing i get the grades at uni (touch wood) but with the car, address & job down in London it will be £700, loosing the protected NCB that is though.

Ill need to give More Than a ring tomorrow and find out how much it will all cost. If they turn around and force feed me these admin charges, what are the legal consequences about cancelling the policy two weeks after I take it out, within the cooling off period, then starting a new one up as soon as i get the new car (be it a C5 or other car capable of commuting)?

    thanks guys
