No probs, my wife does want to read it so guess I should keep it for a while anyway!
I’ll add my thumbs up for “13 Things That Don’t Make Sense” by Michael Brooks as a great book to read, along the same lines as “Bad Science”. Despite already being aware of most of the topics he covered, the fact that the author took the time to present all sides of the subject without any significant bias was rather refreshing. It is also written in a very engaging fashion as well, with difficult concepts being handled without oversimplification.
As an aside there is definitely something “brewing” within science at the moment, with the outcome being a paradigm shift on the scale of “Newtonian to Relativistic mechanics”. The hard part is working out in which discipline it is going to happen as there are so many “mysteries”. If I were a betting man then some small discovering relating to abnormal brain conditions is going to turn everything we know about human intelligence on its head… if you will excuse the pun.
If Wisdom is the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and its deliberate use to improve well being then how come "Ignorance is bliss"
Book arrived today - already on chapter 5. Shall let Rai know the moment I've finished.
Tis a bloody good read.
Book arrived in the post yesterday, will get cracking today on the way to work.
Rave - am I sending on to you afterwards, and if so could you drop me a PM with your details?
Weird... I could've sworn I posted in this thread!
I was going to say, I would appreciate being added to the list
But... I won't get an opportunity to read it until after July 8th (when I finish at work) so if anybody wants to sneak ahead of me before then, I'm more than happy to wait.
So how are people getting on with it then?
It's taken me longer than I though, currently about halfway through but given that I finished my job on Friday I should be done soon. Some interesting stuff in there... Who am I sending on to after I'm done?
