Newish Scan PC in a bad way FAO Ben.

Got a serious problem with my pc, bought it a while ago custom build by scan from scan. Was an expensive build around 2k.

But have been struggling with BSOD's for sometime now.

Been talking to Ben there about it for a while and he's been great but I've lost his email

Had one of the engineer's out last month who replaced the CPU and RAM but no difference.

As of today it's died, it just BSOD's every 2-5 minutes.

I thought I'd reinstall windows on it, as it must have become corrupted but this hasn't worked as it BSOD's when going through the setup process.

I'm self employed so need the pc for work etc.
I'm not a million miles away from Scan's office was wondering if I can bring it in as something isn't right at all.

Ben if you see this, can I bring it in on Monday and leave it with your team to look at?
Am hoping this will save a day as I need it back working urgently?

    Thanks

What version of windows is it?

Im wondering if it could be something to do with AHCI mode being on or off, possibly, see what other peeps say

Not sure what AHCI is exactly, but it's Vista 64.

It's been BS off and on for a while now.
As of yesterday the system became totally unusable, it would be a 1 in 3 chance of booting up as it would BS on its way into windows.

Same in safe mode, 1 in 3 chance of getting there and once in, it would BS there too after 2 minutes.

Have tried to reinstall windows on it but I can't even do that as it gets to the expanding windows stage and BS's, this is both with Vista and Windows 7 installs.

There's obviously something badly wrong, hence why I need to get it looked at.

Re: Newish Scan PC in a bad way FAO Ben.

hmm interesting, thought I'd try it this morning and it booted up with the error message "overlclocking settings failed"

I had the choice to go into setup or use the default settings.
I tried default and so far it's let me reinstall windows 7.

    It seems to working ok.
I paid extra for Scan to OC it but I'm now using the default settings and I can't use the saved profile in the bios as that was the one that BS.

I'm wondering if someone can talk me through the bios settings I need to use?

Re: Newish Scan PC in a bad way FAO Ben.

Hi thanks for your prompt replies, with the default settings in bios things have been a lot more stable.
I've managed to install windows 7 and it's working well.

That said I've just had my first BSOD I didn't get the error message as it rebooted too quick so I will monitor it over the next day and see what happens.

    will let you know

    cheers

ok disregard above email, it's no better.

BS often again and just un-usable.
I'll aim to bring it in asap at the start of the week.

If you need to see the BSOD error message, disable automatic restart. Right click on Computer, Properties, Advanced System Settings on the left, Startup and Recovery, Untick Automatically restart in the "System Failure" section.
