Like when a Spitfire Mk XIX decides to stop by for some fuel!
Turns out the pilot is one of the guys off my old squadron on 29! If you can remember, there was a TV program about the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) a few years ago, where they were traiing up a pilot for the Hurricane; this is the same bloke.
The airfield carries on running as normal, with Puma's still trying to catch up on flying hours lost from the ash cloud fiasco.
Makes a change seeing a pilot doing the refuelling!
The Spitfire wasn't our only visitor at lunch, as we also had a Gazelle stop by to drop off a package (I kid you not!).
(Trying to be artistic. )
Takes a while to fill her up.
No matter what you fly, or where, you can't escape paperwork!
No modern nav systems, so have to rely on the trust map. Did suggest flying low and following the A34! That was until he realised he could just follow this guy to Southampton!
Engine starts; smelt great!
And then off he went to the next airfield. Apparently they expect a northerly wind at Coningsby (where BBMF lives), so they had to land the aircraft out tonight so they'll be able to take off tomorrow!
