Re: Does anyone like Diet Coke?

    Should have done a poll.

General consensus is that it's sucky, with a few people who have got used to it being sucky, and now quite like it.

I'll give Coke Zero a try next time there's no real Coke.

No I'm left wondering whether it's worth starting a new thread discussing the merits of other more tasty beverages.

I detest anything Diet or made with artificial sweetners.

I get a really bad metallic taste & horrible feeling from them in my mouth.

Nope, it's the Guanabana one It comes in a green can, sounds like it should be a mix of Guava and Banana, but appears to be a completely different fruit, and is absolutely delicious!

We only lived in Sparkhill for 18 months, but we loved it there. Then again, we actually technically lived in Moseley I believe (we had the B13 postcode!), but for practical purposes we lived in Sparkhill. Great place.

We already have a thread for favourite alcoholic drinks if people want to make their feelings known in that arena...

right with you on that one! though coke is good for a hangover - which kinda indicates why we shouldn't be drinking the stuff!

From Kalniel further up the thread: Pepsi Max and Coke Zero use sucralose, Diet Pepsi and Coke use saccharine or aspartame. The former is supposed to be more like sugar rather than just a sweetner.

Also, Diet brands have traditionally been trageted towards women (hence the 'diet coke break' adverts), but they needed new branding to target men. So they create a new taste along with the new brand.

Definately taste and texture difference between those two, the Coke Zero uses a different blend that tastes a lot closer to normal Coke.

Coke Zero tastes a lot more sugary to me, sickly sweet.

Re: Does anyone like Diet Coke?

I like diet coke, though, I'm actually pretty convinced it's worse for you than the normal stuff, but my local shop ran out of normal a few years ago during the summer and I ended up drinking diet coke for a few weeks and never switched back. I think there might be more caffeine(or something equally addictive) in diet. I quite like the taste of both, but I rarely buy the red and it's not for taste or the sake of my health. </tinfoil>

Can't stand coke zero or cherry.

Can always get the gold cans that don't have caffeine in them. I can't tell the difference personally, and always buy the gold cans if they're there but you only see them in the bigger supermarkets.

Re: Does anyone like Diet Coke?

I never drink diet drinks on principle. I'm not fat, and I like sugar. In fairness I only drink fizzy drinks as a hangover pick-me-up (or on the very rare occasions that I'm in a pub but not drinking), so I need the sugar as well as the caffiene.

TBH if you like diet drinks for whatever reason you might as well buy Tesco Value cola for 26p for 2 litres- no sugar in that as artificial sweeteners are much cheaper.

The all time best soft drink IMO is Mountain Dew- I was gutted when they gave up selling it here. A few months ago I staggered up to North London with a massive hangover to do a Rail Replacement Bus job (controlling, not driving, I hasten to add ). After half an hour I was really suffering so dashed into a corner shop for a can. They had Mountain Dew in a can with all Arabic writing on it- and an old style ring pull which I haven't seen in this country for about 15 years! And it was every bit as good as I remembered.

Re: Does anyone like Diet Coke?

The problem with diet coke, at least for me is that when I drink the stuff, later in the day I get horrendous pains in my chest and I shake like a baby shakes it rattle ! The same with diet pepsi.

Pepsi max though I'm alright with.
