    Re: Inception

Went to see it last night with my other half and a friend. We all really enjoyed it, including my young lady.

The film's a bit overlong and yes, the C4 and other explosions are typical Hollywood petrol-based ones. I think I'm going to buy the score; excellent stuff.

    Re: Inception

I have to say I found it disappointing. I guess it's just not my sort of film, but then again it was late when I watched it and I was quite tired, so perhaps if I gave it another go I'd see it for what everyone else sees it for. No, film of the year for me is definitely Toy Story 3!

    ^^ THIS.

I really didnt understand what the hype was about, CGI was good but not great - folding city looked a bit crap to me - though my perception may have been slightly tarnished as was late-ish for the film so was pretty close (3rd row!) to the action, dream in a dream in a dream with no obvious consequences - the only guy that 'died' got saved. boo. how did the van barrel-rolling down the hill not wake anyone up but slashing into the ocean did?

Were all the baddies shooting blanks? That really annoyed me - was worse than Commando in that respect.

Only bit I liked was the fact that he'd (caprio) had implanted the idea that the world wasnt real to his wife - i'd guessed that he'd "inception'd" her, but wasnt sure what.

probably watch it again on dvd/bluray to see if something miraculous happens on a 2nd viewing, but overall 'meh'.

    Re: Inception

you dont understand? it was a bit of a refreshing idea compared to all the sequals and remakes holywood push out like karate kid and ****ing A team.

The story is excellent. character development was fine on most of the characters and the CGI was great. i dont understand how you hated it for your reasons above. anyways to each to their own though

    Re: Inception

Saw it last night and it's the best film of that sort of genre I've seen for a long time, and the score was very good indeed, Hans Zimmer has confirmed his place as best film score composer in my opinion!

    Re: Inception

If I was to sum up Inception it would be... nice idea with an interesting story, good acting and characterisation but, and this is a big but, lacking in imagination.

They relied too much on the supposed "head bending" nature of the film and didn't make the most of the fact that it was "dream state". It didn't have to be huge bullet time set pieces like in the matrix, which I suspect they were trying to avoid, but subtle use of "visible" environment adjustment would have given it something extra.

I also think that they could have done the ending differently ***spoliers*** the spinner wasn't needed as the point was that he was in a reality he was happy with and ultimately it didn't matter whether or not a dream... after all reality is merely our perception of it.

Still a darn site better value than some of the tat that is coming out in the cinema... so worth watching.

    Re: Inception

I saw it a couple of weeks ago, and while it was an ok film, I can't see why so many people were going on about how great it was.

Plot wise it was clear where it was heading quite early on, where he is explaining at the cafe. As soon as he starts talking about how hard it is to keep track of reality you could see it was heading to the "how can you tell when you are dreaming or awake", and sure enough, despite an overly long wrap up sequence that is where it ended.

The trailer for the film implied there would be much more M.C.Escher style content to the locations of the film, whereas the whole folding cityscape shown in the trailer was pretty much the only use of it in the film.

As for the wire-work and CGI - things like walking onto the walls just didn't flow, and the hotel corridor fight scene felt far too much like it was on wires without the fighting producing those kind of movements.

All in all a plot similar to Existenz with a larger budget and 100 times more hype, add a big name to the cast and somehow it rockets up the charts on IMDB.

    Re: Inception

Saw it yesterday and I was totally impressed. I really loved this movie. And Leonardo DiCaprio is climbing higher on my Top-Five List of my most favorite actors. After watching it, I had a long web conferencing session with a friend of mine (he recommanded the movie) and we trashed every detail out.

    Re: Inception

Saw it a few weeks ago now. I had to sit right at the front which didn't do my eyes any good. I enjoyed it a lot. Need to see it again on Blu-Ray though.

No film is going to be to everyones taste.
