Off to University, college? Tell us about it!

With the University terms and semesters stating in the next few weeks, I'm sure several HEXITES will be looking forward with both excitement and a little apprehension on the next stage of further education.

So if you are starting off, and maybe living away from home for the first time, tell us where you are going, and what you are studying. You might meet some other HEXUS members going to the same place

And if you have worries or concerns, air them here. Many of us have been through this or something similar, and many still are in higher education.

Re: Off to University, college? Tell us about it!

I have recently graduated University, and I can safely say that it was the best three years of my life (a cliche I know) but I say this in every meaning. Yes, I may have been the stereotypical student and drunk myself into an early grave and I went to an arts university, so you can imagine the amount of craziness that happened there (art + swimming pool = )

But, the three years was like an episode of Stars in their Eyes, I went in one person, and emerged someone different.

I went to a small university - there was only 100 people - which became a small community. everyone was friendly and everyone was beyond their years when it came to intelligent levels, so my mind was opened when I was caught up in an array of debates spanning from Freud, Etymology, poetry and religion.

Even though I enjoyed the lectures and my course, and I learnt so much, I think that the biggest and most beneficial experience of University is the life experience and the independence that you gain. Even though sometimes you may feel that you want to bang your head against a brick wall.

I certainly enjoyed my time at Leeds Uni - and remember turning up at the Hall of Residence not quite knowing what to expect...

I was so excited, yet so nervous when I first arrived at University.

The real one. I'm in the Fallowfield Campus so I'd imagine I'm going to be quite busy in Fresher's week.

Hmmm, yes, I imagine you will. I'm always glad that my unit's based on the Science Park rather than anywhere there's going to be students...

My sister was around fallowfield, the curry mile is great. There was one restaurant called darbar or something where you could take your own booze as well from the costcutter next door

Re: Off to University, college? Tell us about it!

I've just sorted out my accommodation, had to sort out private accommodation because I live too close to get uni halls! I'll be going with 1 person who I've met once before so whilst I won't be totally alone, it's near enough Just bought all my fresher's tickets this morning and I'm moving in on the 26th so it's all getting a bit real now.

Re: Off to University, college? Tell us about it!

I'm off to Bristol Uni... again, but I'm researching for a PhD so things will be somewhat different. In essence I'll distance myself from undergraduate life... but only when I need to take the moral high ground.

My advice to any new starters at Bristol - ssssh, I'm trying to sleep.
