    Fresher's Fair - what've you got!

So, it's fresher's week, and that means lots of free swag at fresher's fair! Now, technically this isn't my swag, it's the stuff my wife got and let me have (read: she didn't want ), but here's my haul:

    Some chicken flavour ramen,
    some smoky bacon crisps,
    various sweets and lolipops
    some Head and Shoulders conditioner
some bright pink nail varnish (now donated to a colleague ),
    TWO Magner's beany hats

    AND

    AN EBUYER MUG!!!

    woot!

So, who else has access to a fresher's fair, and what have you managed to grab while there?

The only thing I remember getting from Freshers Fair (when I was at Uni) was a hangover!

I might go to the Manchester one tomorrow. The last time I went was when I was a Fresher myself, and came back with nothing useful, so I haven't bothered going since.

I'd be worried about people thinking I go to MMU if I went there

Now if they were handing out ebuyer money off vouchers I'd be there tho.......

    Re: Fresher's Fair - what've you got!

Pfft, amateurs. The real swag is at the Finance and Law careers fairs. Lawyers are a rich bunch, I've got parker pens, ipod speakers, Hotel Chocolat chocolate, etc. Finance isn't quite so good, but you get the usual array of t-shirts, pens enough to last a lifetime and occasionally something really good.

In my experience USB pens they give out tend to be utter rubbish, not more than 1GB.

Freshers fair tends to be good for free food and things like bottle openers, generally "studenty" stuff, but it's not that good. Careers fairs and company seminars are much better (hit up the ones by Procter and Gamble, Unilever, etc - these are the people that make the majority of high st. brands and usually give out free toiletries and stuff like that).

I remember when I was a postgrad freshers week was called something slightly different. It was not freebies from companies that was been hunted for.

This year at Manchester it's supposed to be officially called "Welcome Week" to get away from the whole paralytic booziness tag that is attached to "Fresher's Week".

Unfortunately half the university and marketing for private organisations are still calling it Fresher's Week.

UMSU as always has their priorities wrong.

surely you are not referring to the despicable practice that was FAF?

that terrible eek that was so demeaning to first year university students, all fresh faced and rosy cheeked, out to make their way in the world.......

Its horrifying to think so many of them get through that week unscathed
