Whats a fair price for a 2500 chip?

I have been offered a AMD 2500 cpu, it has been overclocked but works fine, he wants £40 is that a fair price?

It depends really. I wouldn't pay £40 for a locked chip but if it's unlocked(pre week 39) then it's worth it.

Also ask him what speed he got out of it and at what voltage?
Also ask him the stepping code & week

The stepping code is a 5 letter string on the 2nd line of the black label on the CPU
This is the rough order of how good they are:
AIUAA < AQUCA < AQXCA < AQXDA < AQXEA < AQZEA < AQXFA < AQFZA < AQYFA < AQYHA < AQZFA
Also on that line is a 4 number string of the type 0334 or similar.
It means 2003 week 34
AMD started locking their cpus at week 39 so ideally you are looking for 0339 or earlier

Edit: The week is more important than the stepping code. The best chips came around 03 weeks 20-39

The steppings also coincide with the weeks so anything AQXEA or later will be pretty good ie at least capable of 3200+ speeds

i say (if its not a mobile chip) 40 quid is a pretty good to price to get for one

ok i have manged to get two chips.... the first is code 'AQXEA' and has a week 30 build (or something like that) the second is AQXFA and is week 46 so i guess that is not as good for oc'ing but i'm selling one in a system and keep one, so no probs there.

0330 would be week 30.
That should be a 2.2 - 2.3 chip without too scary a voltage

The AQXFA will be locked so offload it onto someone

yeah the second one is going in a system to be sold, so greenpig do i just up the FSB or is there other stuff i need to 'up'

What else is going in the system m8?
specifically RAM and motherboard. Power supply may be useful to know as well.
