    Email scam

Seriously, do some people fall for this?

    I had this mail arrive...

Although, I am not comfortable discussing the content of my mail on the internet
owing to lots of unsolicited/Spam mails on the net these days.
Anyway my message is that I have made up my mind to will my late Husband's funds
to you so that you can use it for charity duties and good work to humanity
in your country. The amount is 4million Dollars. Please get back to me on my personal
and secured email address for further information.
    My secured email is: xxxxxxx@gmail.com
    God bless you.
    Mrs. Christine Margaret Astrup.

    Oh yeah,

Having said that, I've been places who have been on the wrong end of a "please send us your username & password" spam run. The end result of that isn't generally pretty (Think internet visible owa and users sending AD passwords )

    Re: Email scam

If you can send out millions, you only need a very low percentage return to be successful - and I guess they are - otherwise they wouldn't do it.

But you can have some fun with them using a fictitious name and a disposable e mail address!

    Re: Email scam

I had a mate (admittedly, not a very bright mate) fall for a lottery scam email once, back when he first started to use the internet. He honestly thought he'd won millions on a European lottery, despite never having bought a ticket. Explaining it was a scam was pretty uncomfortable... one minute he was a potential millionaire, next minute he had no money and felt very stupid.

    Re: Email scam

I had one the other day that actually made me try and login and check some details about a WoW account. The problem is that I hadnt logged in for ages, and couldnt remember what email accout it was registered with. Email was full of legitimate looking links, but didnt risk clicking any.

    Re: Email scam

    I just got one today.....

    From miss. Sandrine Joseph
    Dearest,
I am Sandrine Joseph the only daughter of late Mr and Mrs Joseph Kevin. My father was a very wealthy cocoa merchant in Abidjan , the economic capital of Ivory coast, my father was poisoned to death by his business associates on one of their outings on a business trip . My mother died when I was a baby and since then my father took me so special. Before the death of my father on January 2009 in a private hospital here in Abidjan he secretly called me on his bed side and told me that he has the sum of ten million, five hundred thousand United State Dollars. USD $10.5m left in fixed / suspense account in one of the prime bank here in Abidjan ,that he used my name as his only daughter for the next of Kin in depositing of the fund.
He also explained to me that it was because of this wealth that he was poisoned by his business associates. That I should seek for a foreign partner in a country of my choice where i will transfer this money an d use it for investment purpose such as real estate management or hotel management .
Dear, I am honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways:
    (1) To provide a good bank account into which this money would be transferred into .
    (2) To serve as a guardian of this fund since I am only 19 years.
    (3) To make arrangement for me to come over to your country to further my education and to secure a resident permit in your country.
Moreover, dear, i am willing to offer you 15% of the total sum as compensation for your effort/ input after the successful transfer of this fund into your nominated account overseas. Furthermore, you indicate your options towards assisting me as I believe that this transaction would be concluded within seven (7) days you signify interest to assist me Please contact me on my private email ( sXXXXXXXXom.br )for more informations
Anticipating to hear from you soon. remain bless,
    Yours Faithfully,
    Sandrine.

Luckily for me, i've only ever fallen for a scam once (steam and friends account hacked) emails no...there was one about a tax refund but it became clear very soon before hand!

Either way this was sent to my junk email account i dont really use anymore! so lets have some fun

I get around 5 of them daily, haven't played WoW for a good few years and even then it was registered to a diffrent email address. I do however have a very lucrative account which leads me to believe it's someone that actually knows me.
