    ffs dell!

ah man, i put an order in with Dell yesturday, last night infact... baring in mind aside from microsoft (xbox subscription) and paypal its the only thing i've used my credit card for, in well, forever... and the very next day i get a call saying my card has been compromised and that its been cncelled... subsequently i have to wait a week for a new card and my order that i placed with dell has not been honoured...

so basically, someone at dell is leaking card information and orders are not getting put through because of this...

sucks because i wanted my new machine this week, but instead i have to wait and it also means updating my card at various places.

anyone else experienced this when purchasing from dell?

not to mention thier crappy online login system, i go on, whilst at work, logging in using my information (email and password) yet i cant see anything without knowing the specific order number, which is at home in my emails...

whats the point in having a login system if you need 3 other pieces of information to look at your order? surely you should be able to select the order you want to look at after logging in?

seems like such a stupid system!

    Re: ffs dell!

I doubt you would have got your order this week tbh. There is usually a 7-10 day build time, or at least thats the average time I have had to wait in the past.

    Depends.

If you customise one of the system, it takes a while to build and test and whip the Chinese workers.

If you take one of the "generic" systems, it takes less time.

If you buy one of the "ships in 24hours", its much faster, but totally inflexible.

    Re: ffs dell!

Ahh fair enough, its been a good couple of years since I have ordered anything from Dell, and iirc at that point there wasnt any 'ships within 24 hours' type thing.

Still there ordering process seems somewhat archaic!

Ya know, given that you've listed XBox Live and Paypal, I hardly think it's Dell who'se responsible for your loss of card details....

Used to be, it's either Poland or more likely China these days. Dell still have the site in Limerick but there isn't much manufacturing done there these days.

OP - Are you 100% sure the card has been compromised? I regularly get calls from HSBC regarding by business card where they are convinced it's been compromised and it's actually just their anti fraud systems being far, far too over zealous.

Highly dependant on what you are buying.

Optiplex systems, Poweredge servers, Vostros are all being built and shipped out of Poland.

Generic Lattitude/ Vostro laptops can sometimes be shipped from China - custom spec'd machines from Poland

Inspirons I wouldn't be suprised if they were built in China, but don't generally see many of those to know.

Stuff they have boxed and ready to go is usually shipped from their distribution point in Hinckley

As above - given that most of your purchases are for subscriptions and the odd thing through PayPal they may be thinking that the Dell system you ordered was fraudulant. Did they tell you why they thought your card was compromised?

No leak, just an over-active card company. Certain spending patterns trigger alerts and different banks deal with them in different ways. Some ask you after the event, some text you, some ring you immediately, and some will block the transaction first and then cancel the card unless you contact them first.

The kinds of transactions are anything that people fraudelently use cards for, which is commonly buying prepaid services like iTunes, mobile phone cards, Live! subscriptions. Paypal. And electronics goods. And your card has only been used for these kinds of things, so I'm not surprised it triggered an alert. You have a right to be slightly annoyed they didn't contact you first though.

    http://forums.hexus.net/shopping-ret...s-so-slow.html

Given that it's in-stock refurbs, I expected them to be a lot faster (I did end up postponing the trip).

Good product, slow delivery, payment fine (I told my bank about the order in advance).

All built to order now apparently.
They used to carry stock, but it effected their cashflow so much they stopped it.

Their balance sheet looks much healthier now.
