    Fml

Pretty despondant right now, typing this from the bus as my car refused to start this morning. Guess it was too much to ask it would last till pay day till I could afford to get it repaired. All work could say is "don't be late tommorow" and I'm not even sure I can afford the bus fair till the end of the month.

    Re: Fml

I've looked at discounted bus passes, and even those are more than I have available. I've got enough till the end of the week and after that, I have no idea

Going to see if my mum can help me out, but things are tight her end anyway.

    Re: Fml

Buy a cheap bike off ebay? Can get them for £30-£40? Car share with someone & explain to them the situation, could put a notice up at work?

edit: That sounds a bit too strict, try and keep your chin up! How much weight have you lost recently? Keep stressing the positives & challenges you have overcome recently, this is minor hiccup on a road to recovery for you!

What's the total distance? Is it just walkable for a few weeks?

    Re: Fml

Freegle (freecycle) for a bike? Might get lucky. I love not having to rely on a car to get to work, bike ftw

If it's walkable then walk - even if it takes a bit more time you should be able to work out exactly how long it will take and traffic or other morning fun won't affect your arrival. Lift-sharing is a good option if it's far away, if your not directly on someone's route then offer to walk to somewhere convenient for them. People can be funny about sharing their private car, but tell them you're trying to go green

Chin up, think of it as an opportunity either to get some exercise if it's a reasonable distance or a chance to get to know someone better sharing a ride.

    Re: Fml

It's just about bikeable if I can get a free one, it's 8 miles or so. Not something I'd want to walk if I get a choice.

Going to try and fix the car tonight, *praying* that I can find where the short is to let the battery hold a charge enough to get the battery properly recharged, though without proper tools it'll be interesting (I have a PC repair toolkit )

    Re: Fml

8 miles? Just about bikable? I do considerably more than that with a nice mixture of North and Central London traffic, in 35-45 min depending on traffic and direction (uphill mostly on way home )

So 8 miles should be easily cycleable, just depends on hills and the like! See gmaps pedomiter for the best tool I've found for that.

Hell 8 miles is even walkable, lifes hardly bad when you have to walk 16 miles a day.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just get the fudge on with it.

    Re: Fml

Right, found the short I think, it might be connected to why the glow plugs died in the first place as there was a worn wire touching the engine block. Taped that up, put a charge in it and fingers cross I can at least eak it out till the end of the month.

As for stopping feeling sorry for myself, wish I could, I've done better than I'd normally do because I managed to still get out of bed, but this time of year is when I'm at the biggest risk of getting depressed again as it was around this time of year my family fell apart when I was a teenager.

    Re: Fml

you do know fmls are tradionally funny or at least crude, not silly spirals downwards into depression.

You've taken a step closer to fixing your car, awesome, you've learnt more pratice and understanding about something quite as neat as an auto.

Failing that the exercise will provide you with adictive endorphines and the like. A friend of mine I sometimes meet on my commute describes cycling this one hill as like picking a scab.

*fingers crossed* I'm ok at the moment, as I managed to convince the car to start working again with some help from a friend. We think the battery died because of a loose wire, which is now taped up and the battery's been given a solid kick.

As long as it holds till payday and then I can try and get the glow plugs repaired
