Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

Along with a lot of the usual suspect ones mention already the on that really gets on my nerves is the one for Envirofone.com, it's already shockingly bad and then that idiot pops up going "CooooOOOOL"

Just no! Have a look at yourself man, at what point was that ever going to sound good. When that ad comes on, just the thought that i know he's coming up (not to mention that Wonga guy) is enough to create so much hatred in me that it almost rivals rivals when i catch a glimpse of Jeremy Kyle and here his smug voice.

    Anything dubbed.
    Anything with singing.
    Anything with people smiling.
Anything where i need to ring.
Anything where i need to visit somewhere.
    Anything that makes me hungry.
Anything that isn't just an advert, it's an elongated advert that is delaying the football from returning to my screen.

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

Most of them. But what really gets up my orifices is Wonga.com; two and a half thousand percent interest? That would be illegal in most of the world, and a flogging offence in Saudi Arabia, quite rightly.

How the hell can you justify saying "I will lend you a quid but you must give me back that quid plus 256 quid interest in a year's time"? And who is that stupid that they will buy it?

Actually 2500% is "ONLY" 25 quid + the original 1 quid for your 1 pound you borrow, however still I completely agree with you about wonga, It should not be legal IMHO. The way the advert plays it up that is is an amazing deal really gets up my nose.

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

It's not so much wonga.com, but its all of them, quickquid and a few others. When one popped out the wood work the rest of them did.

The sort of people that take them are those that are seriously struggling, but in my mind surely it only makes things worse ?

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

There's a few companies I won't use because they've annoyed me one way or another over the years, but none I won't use specifically because of adverts. Mainly, this is because I got to some lengths to avoid watching adverts. Any adverts.

The only adverts I see are the bits of them I might catch while editing them out of recordings. I very rarely watch TV live. Very rarely indeed. And if I do, it's nearly always recording anyway (like Sky +) so, come the adverts, I mute the sound and go make a cuppa, check Hexus or just sit and close my eyes for a few minutes. If I miss the program restarting, I simply rewind the recording a bit to the resumption after the advert.

But mostly, I record whatever it is, edit the adverts out and then watch advert-free.

It takes a few minutes to edit adverts out (with frame accuracy), but I'm now pretty damn good at it and it rarely takes me more than 3 or 4 minutes to edit, which beats 20 minutes of watching advertising crap, per hour of program.

The result is I rarely see much more of adverts than the first 5 seconds of the first advert in a break, and that normally isn't enough to put me off using a company. Having said that, Michael Winner is enough to make me use some other insurance company, and Iggy Pop's bare-chested adverts, and the more recent Joop ones, are somewhat nauseating.

Beyond that, my life is largely an ad-free zone.

If you are going to borrow £1 off them, (and i know your not your just doing worst-case on it) for a year then really i would suggest looking at yourself rather than them - if on the other hand you need to borrow £400 for a couple of days, to pay an unexpected bill that you cant get the money for until next pay day, or you are feeling really REALLY lucky tonight and by god it is all going on red, etc then they serve a purpose when all other avenues have been tried.

nothing against them, nobody is forcing you to do it, making it illegal would be..odd

You'd be surprised. Desperate people will do desperate things. If the need is great enough, the future consequences are irrelevant at that moment in time.

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

Wonga- Epic APR understanding fails going on here. Did some of you ignore the simple example and just have a crazy knee jerk reaction when you saw 'Typical 2689% APR'

Borrowing £50 over 7 days costs you £9.33. Why would you borrow £50? Perhaps to prevent getting hit with a £35 bank charge or something. Does that really sound so terrible?

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

Hi my first post. I wouldn't use WeBuyAny car and GoCompare - these guys run the most annoying ad campagins there is. In fact their ads are so annoying that I flip channels when they come on. I cannot fathom how these ads are supposed to attract consumers to their products.

Thing is they make them like that so when someone wants to check out insurance or sell a car cheap those ads are so annoying that they're remembered.

Re: Companies you WON'T use due to their adverts

To be honest thos ads have made me not want to use their services to compare insurance or mortgate. I find forums give me better advice. I used to frequent MSE and comapre things like bank products myself.
