    My hand might fall off

Or at least it feels that way.

Went into a tackle on the astroturf pitch, span around, staggered backwards off the edge of the pitch fairly rapidly, then landed on the tarmac behind me. Right hand (and hence wrist) and left elbow took most of the force.

I've never had a joint hurt this much in my life. Spoken to someone who reckons it's just ligament stuff, but either way it kills.

Unable to type or use mouse... how depressing. I was really up for some fallout as well

Re: My hand might fall off

It might be worth popping into A&E to get it checked. Could well be ligament damage which if it is you should still get it looked at.

Re: My hand might fall off

Right now I've stopped sniggering at the thread title...

If the pain's as bad as you say, it could be a stress fracture in one of your carpal bones(little ones at the base of your palm). Which would certainly cause the pain you're describing and can also cut off blood supply to parts of the hand and is surprisingly easy to do. My little brother came within 3mm of losing his thumb from a similar injury. Although, I hasten to add that is worst case scenario.

Get down the GP's tomorrow, even if it is just a ligament injury(I say just but they can be quite serious themselves), you'll still want it looked at and you'll get some good painkillers . If you get any major swelling or loss of movement/sensation in your hand or fingers go straight to A&E, do not pass go, do not collect £200.

Other than that, hope it heals quick and you can get back to spreading 5.56mm justice to the wasteland.

Re: My hand might fall off

Dislocated my thumb in a bad way a couple of years ago.
The pain was something else I have never felt before, but not as painful as not being able to play games for two whole months, i feel sorry for you snootyjim, but also wish you a speedy recovery, as said above your GP or A&E is probably your best bet.

Yes, you could have dome more damage, that will be easier to get fixed now than later. (And good to see you posting again shadowmaster )

Re: My hand might fall off

Mate of mine had a difference of opinion with his wife, he ended up been pushed backwards over the sofa (its hard when your well brought up and never hit a woman no matter how much they deserve it), landed his foot badly on a coffee table.

Walked on it for a while, got worse went to A&E was sent home. Went back to states had xray then an MRI and has now recovered from the surgery that was needed to re-set the foot.

    get them checked earlier.

Re: My hand might fall off

I had a similar footballing injury. I just grinned and beared it for a day or two (I even finished the match). It wasn't getting better so I popped into A&E and found I had fractured my scaphoid and needed it pinned! So - to echo the other posters certainly worth getting it checked out.

Went to the health centre, they told me to go away and take some ibuprofen, which I already had, along with codeine.

    Very productive

Re: My hand might fall off

If Codeine isn't giving you any relief I'd be inclined to believe you've damaged something, so off to A&E for an x-ray. It wont be to busy today so now's a good time, it will however be chocker this weekend, so don't put it off.

A&E sometimes do the same though without giving you a check over. It appears this depends on what mood the person doing the triage assessment at the hospital is in.

I went to A&E at Bolton twice over a 12 week period with a shoulder that was purple and swollen quite badly. I got told by the same woman twice it was just brusing and to take painkillers and it should be fine.

I went a third time as I couldn't move my arm higher than 20 degrees from my side before I felt a crunching feeling and pain in my shoulder. This time I told them the same as before, how it occurred and I was checked over straight away and as soon as the guy who was assessing me heard the crunching & cracking and saw what was going on he said it was an AC joint seperation and whisked me down to x-ray.

Now.. 6 months later I'm still getting issues and still having treatment to get it sorted out and the specialist I've seen has given me a report stating how if this was detected and treated by the hospital sooner I wouldn't need any further treatment now.

Left hands are just passable for typing, just about useless for mousing, I've tried it.

Not the first time I've heard this sort of example; not to make a sweeping statement or anything, but I always feel sorry for people who can't or don't want to assert themselves/ask for 2nd opinions etc, it's by no means easy to persist in the face of someone in authority especially medical.

Go back to A&E and throw a hissy fit until they X Ray it !!!

and I hope it doesnt take too much out of you. Being an expert on pain (my companion 24/7), I kow how tiring and wearing it can be.

Im on Tramadol painkillers, very very nice if you can get it ! Naproxen is also quite good as an NSAID.

    Chin up
    Cheers, David
