    Crossing the Language Barrier

Our French exchange student turned up last night. He'll be staying with us for a wek improving his English.
Now my french is abysmal, and his English is only slightly better, but as it turns out, he's a PC gamer and spends a lot of time on BC2. All of a sudden we had a lot to speak about, as things like headshot, M-416 and Level 34 translate directly. All of a sudden my French is superb as I have found out that the French for things like Crossfire, FPS, RAM and ATi are exactly the same.

I'm hoping to pick up enough French to adequately taunt people on Continental servers when my mines take out three of them in a Bradley. Now I can claim that my gaming habit is educational !

    Or possibly Atari.

Don't do that. The government will be wanting to triple your fees.

Interesting, the song I am listening had the lyric "bad company" exactly as I was reading BC2 in your post

Sounds like fun, you'll soon be taking turns each spawn and saying "Nah, that didn't count, I got spawnkilled, I get another turn."

    Re: Crossing the Language Barrier

I remember one of my German exchange students, he liked video games a lot. He didn't seem to like people at all which wasn't great. We'd go out with the rest of the exchangers and exchangees(?) to kick a ball around and he'd just stand by the goal post. But put him in front of a computer and he's design a map for Red Alert which meant he couldn't lose, then proceed to win against multiple difficult computer opponents. Needless to say we didn't speak much and I found a new partner to stay with in Germany...

    Egads !
This bloke is just your average gamer. Have to say his 16 year-old reflxes are somewhat better than mine. He's quite chatty too, when you get him going, it's mostly the language that holds him back.

    Hilarious French joke:
Un homme rentre dans un café. Plouf.
Seriously though, sounds like a bit of a laugh... make sure you learn a stackful of insults.

+1 to that, I have like a list of insults in a random wordfile somewhere how sad it may seem, it really helps when you can't speak the language fluently or at all
