Now this is something i've never done before but here goes:
Two of my friends are doing the Teide Challenge, which basically involves a 30km ascent of Mt Teide, which is the 3rd highest volcano in the world.
The donations will go towards the Earth Centre Project in Sierra Leone. (With no religious connotations that I am aware of...)

Basically it's a base that allows further research into rainforest/marine habitats and their ecosystems. While at the same time boosting the countries economy by providing eco-tourism opportunities.
This explains things a little better towards the end. But touches on the 'Blood diamond' trade of Sierra Leone also.
