Mr. Ng explained the concept in 2006 in his Ph.D. thesis at Stanford University, which won the worldwide competition for the best doctoral dissertation in computer science that year from the Association for Computing Machinery.

No intellectual slouch then! Hope he has the business acumen/advice to turn it into a product.

shame its so expensive, because that's the future of social media photos right there. what could they make for £100? none of the constraints of a flat phone, yet still ridiculously easy to slip in a pocket.

They are some big files - only 750 images on a 16gb card? My Canon will do 5,000. But it won't do post-click focusing...
