    Alu case woes

I have a rather spiffy silverstone case thanks to Mr 33 but I have a small problem with the pci mounting brackets in that the screw hole for mounting a graphics card has expanded somewhat meaning that the card cannot be screwed down tightly.

Has anyone got a simple (cheap) fix for resolving this problem?

    Cheers!

stunning suggestion, I have tried all the screws that I have to hand, all are wobbly and the fan screws are far to large.

Do you have any teflon tape? Micropore might be an alternative I guess.

Use a larger screw, but you might need a tap and die set to re-thread the hole(s).

Yep, I'd try PTFE(teflon) tape, or some other kind of tape first. Another option is to just use a nut and bolt / machine screw, so the nut will give it the tightness. Tapping a new thread sounds like a lot of effort

If it's Ali and you use a decent screw, it'll probably manage to make it's own thread.

If not, I call Gaffa Tape.

    Re: Alu case woes

Case screws (and 3.5" hard drives) are #6-32 (an old imperial format used in the far east and US)
Dvd roms, floppy drives and any other external bay device use smaller M3 screws (yes metric)
fan screws are #7-32 self tapping

Quick way would be to try an M4 self tapping screw, or an M5 self tapping, to re-tap the hole, then use a normal short m4 (or m5) screw.

Best way would be to get a tapping tool and re-tap the hole for m4 or m5

Taps here - you could probably get away with just the taper tap in aluminium

I didn't know that about the screws, way to push useful exam revision out of my head before monday with that (irrelevant info clearly takes priority )

Cheapest fix is surely a nut and bolt?

What GFX card? Get a dual slot bracket for it if it's single and do it that way?
