    To all the pilots...

...which of you has wished they could fly a Spitfire...?

I spotted this in the local paper:
    http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/news/91...ly_a_Spitfire/
    http://www.oxfordairport.co.uk/airpo...ht_academy.htm

A PPL and a few grand and you could be flying one of the world's most famous aircraft!

I wonder what they'd let you do with it... Shame we've got the 250kt limit - and you're not going to be taking one into airspace!

It's a little steep, given that £4500 will give you the best part of a PPL to begin with, but it's certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Where do I sign?

I would guess that's for one hour.

    Oh... My!

Its always been a dream, and if I am able to sell enough of my code, then maybe, after I've got aerobatics obviously....... The thing is a chunk of that will be going to preserving such a rare bird, probably a lot on the insurance too

but either way, wow something I can aim for I suppose, that said I feel compelled to get some time in a tiger moth, my grandfather flew those a bit....

    Re: To all the pilots...

There's a place in FL, Stallion 51, that does P-51 training. I think it's about $3500 an hour, which is a relative bargain. Of course, it's not a Spitfire.

There are a few organizations in the US that do rides as a way of preserving the legacy. I blagged a ride in the B-17 Nine-O-Nine a couple of years ago which was amazing. Of course they wouldn't let me near the controls, but we could crawl around anywhere except the ball and rear turrets. Normal price was $430 for a half hour ride.

Two day course apparently, not sure how much flying you get out of it though.
