Smile The ZX Spectrum is 25 today

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6572711.stm

Happier, simpler times methinks. Who needs a C2D and DX10 graphics card when 3D gaming meant isometric perspective and monochrome graphics, and you try and tell kids that today and they wont believe you.

I was using a Spectrum at Bletchley Park last weekend. Bloody awesome machine.

Anyone else fancy fitting an entire galaxy, umpteen flying ships, an economy and a flight engine into 48k?

    No....?

thought not. Uber programmers. Uber machine.

    3d Ant Attack?

    Jet Pac in 16kb.

    Amazing. That's when.,......

/goes off into a haze of old memories that no one else remembers or cares about.

I did love the old Spectrum. We had one from around 83 and it started getting a bit buggy as the keys wern't working properly around 86. Thats when one evening after school my parents brought in a Commodore 64 and I went Commodore then right up till the SuperNES hit the shelves.

I bought a Spectrum Emulator with virtually all the games on it from HMV around 8 years ago (Yeah it is fully legal). Its called Speccy 99 and works a treat to this day even on XP.

I have it in my drawer right now, actually rephrase that as I was typing the first part of this sentence went rummaging and it is now on my desk. Think it is time to fire it up again in respect to Sir Clive Sinclair and pay homage retro style.

If my mind serves me rightly Bruce Lee, Head over Heals and many others are on there

Just found it on Dutch eBay!!!

Damn, if the Speccy is 25, and I was 12 when I got one for Christmas, and it was in it's first year of production, then that means I must be getting close to.....

.... dont even wanna think about it. How time flies!

Check these clips of the 1980's BBC computer program MICRO LIVE....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLfYT6yXgEc Fred Harris - WHERE did you get that tie?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgTCE6PTXsE A slightly less comical one - but check out the Sinclair lady - doesn't she look like the classic 1980's SLOANE RANGER?

    And finally...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahVYyrWz0cg A brief overview of the speccy with some classic (?) 80's music lol

When you take out the system overheads, I think the game actually fit into more like 22 K!
