PSP - UK Release Today (1st Sept)

Just wandering who else here picked up a PSP today and what games you got with it?

Mines on route to me as i type - should be dlivered to my office today - and im getting Wipeout Pure with it and will probably get NFSU rivals and one more game today as well.

By the time i actually decided i wanted one - i couldnt preorder anywhere so went to a backup plan which seems to be working out well.

    Anyone else got theirs then?

It's too expensive for me unfortunately, I'm gonna be able to get either the PSP, or the XBOX360. Obviously I'm getting the latter.

I understand the PSP uses it's own format of discs... UMD or something?

How do you watch films on the unit? Does it take Memory sticks?

It does look a tasty unit, but for £179 I'm not too sure... a PS2 only costs £99.

Considering the X360's basic pack is £209, the PSP does seem like a lot of money.

You can't carry a PS2, screen and power generator/UPS around in your coat pocket though

If i get a lot of cash after i slave over my new job, then I will probably buy one but I don't really need it. I would rather get an Xbox360, but the hacking prospects alone are quite attractive

I think generally most of the people who really wanted them on these forums already got one

Granted they are great consoles, but can you imagine how many are gonna be stolen in buses and trains as people play them.

On another point do you need to buy a wifi card to get on the net or does it come with the package?

Famished, Wifi is built into the PSP if thats what you mean. I am not sure how it would get on the net. My friend purchased one whilst in Japan and has had it a good few months. I'll drop him a mail and ask him for you. The customisation is quite appealling to me, i may wait though to see if prices drop.

pdog, it uses the WiFi to connect to a "hotspots" / PC and then shares its connection to the internet. There are loads of WiFi points in London, some are free, some you have to pay for access.

How can anyone compare this to an xbox 360 - wtf.

    TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS.

    anyway....

you can buy movies on the umd format and watch them on the psp or you can convert divx type things, stick em on the memory card and away you go.

WiFi is built into the PSP so all you need is a hotspot to get onto the web.

Im well impressed and ive never been a sony fan.

No one is comparing it (the PSP) to the XBOX 360. They are comparing the value of the two devices (weighing benefits). In other words, why should I pay £X for a certain type of entertainment when you could pay slightly more for significantly better entertainment? Of course, of you value mobility highly, the PSP would be the significantly better entertainment.

Yea I was about to say the same thing. And TBH they are not completely different, they are both consoles marketed at playing video games and various types of media, ones just portable thats all.
