    Ad server changes

    Hi guys,

I'm in the middle of the seemingly never ending process of improving server infrastructure. This involves setting up some servers, moving some stuff around into a new structure that's kind of what I want, then setting up some more servers, and moving some stuff around again, finally getting what I want.

The first acid test of the new "halfway there" infrastructure has just been put into play. I've moved the database for our ad services onto the new cluster. The web serving is still handled by the same old server, however.

If anyone notices uk.ads.hexus.net grinding to a halt, let me know. You're not likely to notice any difference - I doubt ads will serve any quicker as there's no change in the way they're delivered.

    Cheers!

    Re: Ad server changes

well pages seem to be loading quicker for me this morning than they have in a few days. I think the ad next to the quick reply box was being slow to appear, meaning the page takes ages to jump down to the last unread post in the thread.

    Re: Ad server changes

    Interesting.

Some ads are served remotely rather than by the server, at which point it's very difficult to track performance issues.

Still, the ad server has put barely any load on the new SQL servers, which is good.
