That's an impressive feat...
I was wondering if the ground crews had foamed up the runway to try to prevent the plane from catching fire? Wondering if it would've been better to Hudson the plane if there had been some water around instead... though thankfully no injuries here!
They burnt off excess fuel before the attempt, the runway was likely prepared with foam, and the pilot put down silky smooth. No reason for great big fireballs here.
Kudos to the pilot. He put down better than some pilots do with working landing gear.
That was a very smooth landing, Very impressive.
Test book landing and recovery.
According to that thread TheAnimus posted, the runway was coated beforehand, which I guess would explain why it seemed to slide so far. Even so, the most I would have expected fire wise would be the spent fuel from the engine exhaust getting reignited (ala afterburner). But someone did bring up a good point of how the Dreamliner would have coped in a similiar situation, since it's materials have a lower melting point (don't believe it would affect the engines being dragged along the ground, but just the fuselage).
Of course, the perfect solution was done in Thunderbirds (the first episode IIRC) with the flatbed truck things!
Damn you iPhone!
Y U NO HAVE FLASH?!
Will have to watch this later on.
