This is an interesting thread, one I wish I'd got involved in before now TBH.
Yeah? Less than 4000 people died as a result of the 9/11 attacks. A few years earlier 800,000 or more Rwandans died at the hands of their own countrymen, a large number of them were hacked to death with machetes in front of their families. In 1985 millions of Ethiopians starved to death in front of the TV cameras. Since you are (IIRC) less than two years younger than me, I suspect that 9/11 actually isn't the worst thing you've ever seen (I'm 25 this month if you want to refute that argument).Originally Posted by Vaul
Well, my own absolute high personally would be seeing Nelson Mandela released from jail and actually becoming IRL the hero that he'd always been portrayed as, but hey- this is a thread about football. I agree, basically; I'm a hardcore liberal and European, but I'm still immensely proud to be English. The best sporting event I have ever witnessed was the England-Argentina game at the World Cup '98. Usually the England team disappoints me; they don't take the game to the opposition and don't use their talents to control the game, but in that game they fought from the start, and fought all the harder once Beckham had been sent off. We should have won that game and the fact that we didn't doesn't really spoil it for me: the England team played some incredible football that day and I was proud to have them representing me.Were England to win a World Cup, that would be my high. My Dads high was watching Neil Armstrong step onto the surface of the moon. You with me now?
I'll be watching every England game that I can at Euro 2004
