We've just ahd a customer come in for the THIRD time returning a 14" TV with built video recorder.
They have been in twice before with the same problem, that being that the 'video recorder isn't working'.
Unfortunately, both times they came in, there wasn't an electrical desk expert on hand, so the customer services person gave them an exchange and logged the set as faulty.
This guy has just come in for the third time, now very angry, demanding to speak to a store manager. Unluckily for me, I was the only one on the shop floor so I got it....
The guy has his rant, moans about having to drive back here yet again and generally slags the store off for selling, in his opinion, crap stuff.
I sympathise with him, apologise and set about finding out the history of the whole thing..... then I decide, to show the bloke I'm trying to be helpful, to plug the TV in show we can both see that it is really borked and he needs either a new one or a refund.
I plug the telly in and of course we get no picture cos its got no aerial... so bloke starts off again, this time telling me it's even more broken as it has no picture at all now.
Alarm bells start ringing in my head.
I explain to the guy that it needs an aerial to get a picture, at which he shuts up a little, but presses on saying that the video is broken.
I get a tape and while I'm unwrapping it, he asks me what I'm up to.
I explain that I'm going to put a tape in to test the video player.... at which point the guy goes very quiet....
The tape works fine, plays straight off with perfect picture and sound.
I look at the guy and tell him it seems fine to me, at which point he asks me what I did. I explain that all I did was put a tape in the machine and pushed play.
The next 3 minutes were the worst of my life, trying not to burst out laughing as the guy tells me he NEVER THOUGHT HE HAD TO PUT A TAPE IN!!
He thought that 'built in video recorder' meant the tape was built in. ALl this time we've been accepting back 'faulty' machines cos this numpty hasn't had the nouse to put a tape in the machine!
I set him straight, as politely as possible, and then he has the audacity to turn round and try and blame us by saying that we should have told that first time he came back... I told him that I was sorry that he'd missed the bit in the manual about putting the tape in, but I'd call the manufacturers and tell them to put it in larger print next time, so people wouldn't miss it.
I'm still laffing about it now....
