My finance has had a very good job and has been supporting me while I am going to school so I have had no income except for my student loans and grants which equal up to 15,000 dollars. Will I claim this as my income to pay my taxes? My financial aid advisor has not been the best with explaining things to me and rarely calls me back. Do you claim student loans and grants as income at tax time? Please response me.

I hate studentfinanceni, they are giving me a 3000 loan for a course which costs 1200, I have tried oh so many times to contact them, phoning them just doesn't even work, they keep asking for a 4 number PIN, they sure as hell aren't getting my bank pin, and have no reason to ask for it. It's gone on so long now that there is absolutely no point in trying to reapply for this years loan, as the next one is already starting up, and that's the advice I was given by the student finance people in the unni.
Oh well.
Take the 1800 and put it in a Cash ISA, pay back at the end of uni, earning yourself a few quid in the process.
Much easier than dealing with SLC.

My boss wrote to them 3 times, to inform them that I'd been given a pay rise over the threshold at which I'd need to start making payments. Not once did the write back to tell him how much needed to be taken and passed on....

Don't you get a reimbursement for anything that you pay over the top?
SLC are the biggest bunch of idiots that I have ever spoke to (worse than UKOnline!). I don't understand how a they can be so incompetent. Almost everyone I know has issues with them.
Quite often do that with the shop, mobiles or anything. If I am busy I will take their number and get back to them as soon as I can. Ok It costs the firm a few extra pennies but it makes our customer service look very good.

I am currently attending a 4 year program for a BS in IT. I have Pell grants and federal Stafford loans but I am starting to acquire costs for pc software fees, new computers, parts and so on. Really, my 2 current loans don't even cover the cost of my tuition - I still have to come out-of-pocket each month $335. I'm looking into a private loan. Do private student loans work like this as well? Do they send the school the money? Please help and answer my questions. Thanks a lot.

Hi sorry to rebump this thread but over the last couple of months, well since i started my new job, i have not been charged for any student loan on my salary. how comes? has student loan forgot about me? hope so
i am far from paying it all and i even asked one of my mates if he had got charged for student loan and he said no when he usually does. not that where complaining im just curious why
IIRC, you have to be earning over a base figure to start repayments, so you may not have hit that yet
LOL on my previous job i was earning less and got taxed the student loanmy mate is on the same salary has i currently am since dec and his been paying the loan untill last month. whats the base figure? must be realy high now. 30k? lol
