Woman attempts an early entry into the 2012 Darwin awards.

Decanting petrol in an enclosed space, while cooking is apparently a really bad idea, who knew?

Sorry, she is ineligible for a Darwin award as she has a daughter and has therefore already passed on her genes.

It is stupid, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know about the petrol fumes.

Not sure if her daughter was in the building with her: if she'd removed her from the gene pool at the same time...

That said - the more I read this story the more idiotic it seems. Firstly: stockpiling petrol. Secondly: decanting petrol in a room with a naked flame. Thirdly: decanting petrol from a jerry can into a glass container? Why would you even do that?

Feel sorry for the poor women, must had been so scary, hope it wasn't her face or anything.

Silly thing to do, but it just shows a lack of common sense and such poor education in our country, it's silly, but I was watching my Dad fuel up our car today at the pumps and could see the fumes haze around the fuel pump, made me think on how much of a hidden danger it is.

That's why there's a lot of regulations around petrol stations. Even mobile phone calls are banned in petrol stations because of the worry that the microwaves from the phone might "excite" the fuel.

When the most probable reason is that the mobile phones might mess up the pumps and you could get free fuel.

I mean, theres just as much chance of a spark from your clothing or starting the engine as the mobile phone.

That's what seemed so bizarre. If her daughter had run out of petrol, why not just hand her the jerry can and tell her to top her car up?

Also seems odd that someone would take petrol into the kitchen or even the house really.

the most probably reason is people not paying attention to what they are doing when they are on the phone and dripping petrol about or overfilling the tank and petrol coming out. whilst you may enter the pumps not speaking on the phone, if someone calls them and they get preoccupied with the call, they may make a mistake that endangers lives

similar reasons as to why electronic devices aren't allowed on planes at certain times. if people are preoccupied with phones and gadgets during take off and landing, the most common times when an accident can happen, they won't be fully aware to help themselves and others escape. one guy on the end of the isle that doesn't move quickly can affect the other people who need him to move first before they get out. with mobile phones during flight, imagine how annoying it will be with 30 people chatting incessantly about complete rubbish whilst you are on a plane for hours

but sometimes it's just easier to give another answer instead of try and explain something long winded that people might argue about
