    Bombed with Pop-ups!

Okay, before shouting Adaware, Spybot etc. - I've tried them.

Yesterday on my work computer I got blitzed with pop-ups. COuld be something to do with a was engaging in some downloads and inadvertently gave permission to an ad company.

We've figured out that the pop-ups are related to an online site called 680180, or something similar.

Spybot doesn't do squat, nor the others. Something obviously got installed, and now I can't use IE without getting bombarded. Hence, I'm reaching you via Mozilla Firefox.

    Any ideas?

Get a popup blocker. When I was looking for one, I found LOADS that came with toolbars, but I didn't want another toolbar, because that meant less space. I eventually found something called popthis! It's free (although there's a payed version too with more features, and it lives in the tools menu. The status (popups allowed or not) can be changed easily by opening it and ticking a box.

Link to a site to choose to download free/payed version

You tried hijack this? It should show up anything that is running and should be able to kill it from there. If you can get it and show us a screenie of what is listed im sure we could find the bad one Also clear out your temp internet files as that fixes it sometimes with me.

But no program that "cleans" your PC gets rid of EVERYTHING! Yes, you need one of those, but a popup blocker will help too.

I know its a dumb question but you have checked add/remove programs for the item I take it?

Also check in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files and make sure there is nothing there you do not recognise.

Alternatively....If you are running Windows XP, go to start >> run >> msconfig, go to the start up tab and take a look and see if you have any totally blank lines with a tick on the left hand side, fi you do take the tick out and reboot. These are usually malicious stuff.
