    Olympics

Most people don't know that they've already started, with preliminary rounds for the football.

I sense a result of the whole event, any sport. Iraq 4 Portugal 2. Yup, that's right, the runners-up of Euro 2004 have been thrashed by a team whose preparations have been virtually non-existent due to the war and internal security situ.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Man Utd and Nuno Gomes of Benfica good enough for you? The Portugese side will be mostly U23 internationals and all will be playing in either the premier league or championship equivalents in leagues across Europe. It is an absolute giant killing.

Blimey... and you're talking to somebody who couldn't care less about football

    Still, sounds pretty rough.

Well normally I couldn't give a flying fig about football in the Olympics, nor tennis or any other sport where the Olympics is not considered the absolute pinnacle of the sport or at least a very close second place. Would Tiger Tim rather win Wimbledon or the Olympics? Euro 2004 or the Olympics football? There is a core of seriously athletic sports at the Olympics and that's the way it should stay in my opinion. The big ones are athletics obviously, swimming, gymnastics and rowing and it's the showcase event for smaller sports such as judo and badminton when people who couldn't usually give two hoots about the sport will sit and watch for hours if there's a particularly enticing game on. Softball though? Give me a break.

I saw the opening yesterday, and I must say I'm happy that the Palestines was one of the country among the others . I very much like the Olympic games! I really agree with the thing that Jacques Rogge (I dunno if that how he spelt it) said that during the game they forget everything about the land borders, politics and religions..I think that's very very important! That's the most incredible part about it all. .
