    Any Martial artists here?

I've recently been going to the training part of a kickboxing club once a week, and although i'm pretty fit the sessions of 90mins of training are absolute killers.

But i'm wondering how many people off hexus do martial arts?. I have to say it is superb for all mind, body and soul. I've found myself feeling much more confident over my body.

My brain is now thinking so much faster when i'm physically exerting myself - my badminton has improved from the increase in physical development of my upper body even after two session. With me winning 3-0 against Vimeous in badminton singles last week (something that is unheard of )

I'm definitely not up for going through the belts for kickboxing, its far too out and out agression, but for the training its superb. When i've got some other stuff sorted out in my life, it will be time to make a choice on a particular form.

So whats other arenas we got here?

Yep iv just strated doing JKD recently, been going for about 2 months now.

Its a real interesting one, as it borrows form a mixture of arts - KickBoxing, Western Boxing, Kali, Savate - from what iv seen so far.
We do one hour sessions, twice a week and yep it kills ya.

Funnily enough the most killer drills so far have been the Kickiboxing ones.

And I agree with you, as fit as you are teh training still opens your eyes

Done Karate (shotokan), Freestyle kickboxing, Judo and Taekwondo.

Kickboxing was definately my favorite style although all of them draw together in certain aspects.

Having been intending to do combat karate for ages now, Ive promised myself I will do it this year at uni... should be great fun, as well as finally getting me fit.

It would also be nice to be able to feel safer walking home late at night by myself, ever since being mugged I am a little wary of that!

I did ninjutsui for about 6-7 years, but stopped when I got a job in London (2 hrs commute at the time) that was 4 years ago, and am now not commuting, got a transfer to my home town - every intention of taking it back up again, when i've got a bit fitter...

I did a bit of Thai Boxing, Karate and studied JKD (Although that was via the Unabridged Bruce Lee text) before settling with Boxing. If you think that any martial art has high fitness go to your local ABC and have a go, I guarentee the pace will be far hihger than expected.

    Glad you enjoyed it TiG.

I've dabbled with various styles since I'm lucky enough to have a Sensei who isn't blinded into thinking one style is better than all. Before I started my freestyle approach though I did 4-5 years of ITF style Taekwondo which was good fun. Not hugely effective in the street imho, but superb for fitness and general well being, not to mention being a blummin good sport and great fun!

However, there's more to martial arts than plain kicking and punching... At the moment I'm in love with JuJitsu and related "twist and lock" style fighting. There's something immensely satisfying about locking up someone, dropping em to the floor and watching em squirm as you rip their joints to bits.

Ok, maybe that's just me.. (and Doll)

    Ain't armlocks fun!

We did a very enjoyable street fighting session once a week at my kickboxing dojo. It took in striking, throws and locks for disabling an opponent as quick as possible.

    Lots of fun
