    Electronic Cigarettes

I'm wanting to give up the roll ups, and try some E-Cigs to help me quit for good

Aside from the consistent hand to mouth action, and breaking the habit etc etc, i think E-Cigs will work well for me.

Can anyone here that has used them, or does use them, provide any recommendations on brands or models to try?

I have read that some can give a really dry throat, which i'd like to prevent.

I actually like smoking, but due to the obvious health concerns i think its time to give up, hence me thinking E-Cigs could work well for me for the time being.

    Thanks!

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

My mum uses them. It's never got her off the cigs totally, but she uses it around 50% of the time. That has been rising over the last few years though, so maybe she'll be off them fully one day.

She doesn't really have any issues with them, but I would say buy a decent brand one. We've had a few of the cheaper ones from Ebuyer and they've not lasted.

Just quit. All these things do is drag out the psychological decision of whether you're a smoker or not.

Could you name some of these cheaper brands if you get a minute please? I'd like to avoid them also.

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

I think E-cigarettes are a waste of time.
I tried them myself and I just didn't like the taste of them.
I know a couple of people who used to smoke over a pack a day. But now smoke more of those E-cigarette as they're assumed to be safer than normal cigarettes.

The best option (and the way that I quit) was cold turkey. Just cut it out completely. It's tough for the first week or so. But after week 2 you'll barely remember them

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

    Best to just give up.

You are just moving from one to another. I smoked cigs and weed for years and when i found out we were pregnant with our first, stopped. Took a couple of weeks and I was off them.

Maybe you need to have a solid motivation to stop.

Think of the money saved as well as the health issues. Maybe a bigger motivation.

    Good luck whatever your choice

I take it you think I'm not being helpful. I smoked roll-ups for years having started on large rollups involving 4 papers.... All these gimmicks are bad psychology. Quit, or don't and keep enjoying your cigs.

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

Here's the problem, its not really my choice to quit, so i see e-cigs as being a good alternative. (no smelly clothes, less passive smoke, less expense, possibly)

The plan is to use the e-cigs and not buy any real tobacco products until i get bored of the e-cigs and give up completely. I'm kind of building myself up to it. I have a kind of routine while i'm working on the PC, and like most smokers, breakfast consists of a coffee and a fag.

I can't see myself just giving up all smoking products, but then again, i used to think that about weed, and i just woke up one morning (well, afternoon) and decided enough was enough. That was ~ 2 years ago and it was a LOT easier than i thought it would be.

I have a couple of decent motivational points to quit, but so far, they haven't been enough.

This is going to sound like i'm being unthankful, but i'd really just like some reviews or tips on which e-cigs to get from those that use them. The reviews i have seen online seem to be heavily biased and set up by the manufacturers.

    Cheers.

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

if you don't want to give up, e-cigs aren't exactly a bad alternative. Less carcinogenic is good right?

Main issue is you look more out of place than a Mr Blobby branded marital aid smoking such a thing.

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

I've tried the cartridge based e-cigarettes from a number of chinese sites a year ago and found them pretty pants, especially for the 'throat hit' of a cigarette, the cartridges are very expensive too for how long they last

This week (barring some issues with broken atomizersm bought a Kanger T3s instead from ebay) I've started to switch to vaping, I went with the cola flavour juice which I think could be better. You get a dry throat from the pg/vg sugar which is what you vape and drinking more water helps this (pg/vg are used in medical purposes but some have issues with either).

It's not the same as smoking, it's not the same as smoking a cigarette (more like a shisha pipe/cigar). I enjoy smoking but as you feel, the health benefits mean it's worth a shot at quitting

e-Go are decent for a starter kit, a variable voltage one helps get the best out of whichever liquid you buy, 1 or 2ml of juice a day and it's about £10 for 30ml so a lot cheaper. Juice is a personal taste thing and I think it's best to try mixing a few to get a good feel of what you like best.

I still have a few normal cigs on a night out but I suspect that will change in future further down the line when I'm more used to it

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

I was a smoker for 20 years and made the switch to e-cigs Sept 12 when my son was born. Not touched a normal fag since apart from drunken nights out and even then I couldn't stand the taste and harshness now. Dont bother with the e-cigs that look like normal fags, they're nasty and taste bad, go down the big battery and tank route. Lasts much longe,r tastes way better and you get a much better vaping experince so you wont want to go back to real ciggies.

I'm not fooling myself I'm still addicted to nicotine but now I physically feel much better, I'm reducing the nicotine strength of the liquid every few months and wallet feels much better too. Also dont get the tabbaco flavoured liquids, try the alternatives like Red Cola, Strawberry and Menthol, just stay away from coffee flavour...it's rank! Dekang or DK is my preffered brand of E-Liquid. Prices for hardware and E-Liquid vary greatly so go on some of the big vaping forums and you'll find the cheap but reliable shops (there are loads of sharks out there). For hardward for starters try the following

    Battery - Joyetech eGo-C Twist VV 1100mah or 1300mah
Tank - Vision Mini Nova Kit
USB Charger - Ego-Riva USB Charger With Cord
Cone or Plinth for Mini Nova (not essential but looks better with it)

    Re: Electronic Cigarettes

e-cigs tend not to not break the cycle, can I suggest you go to Tesco and buy a pack of the own brand cheap lozenges to dose you on nicotine in a slow release form so you do not crave a ciggy, that way you can start to break the roll up and smoke cycle like i did, as you cut down up the dose to offset the lack of cigs then as you get to grips with not rolling up you can wean yourself off the lozenges.

Worked for me after smoking for 20 years
