I only tend to buy car bits on there these days.
Apart from getting some SILLY prices for items I had considered binning - I have had some real bargains off there - just a case of setting a limit and sticking to it.
Example - 5" Rev Counter Real Steel price = £280 Winning price £120 (brand new never opened) - shame I didnt bid on that one though

I still think it's a great place - true you do get some stuff over the odds by chancing stores, but its there for money to be made and thats what people / small businesses are doing - much to the dislike of the taxman. If people dont check out current prices then thats their own fault.

Even the option of buying from another country is worth it . . . a gundam model I had my eye on here cost £120-£130 on shops and the net . . .a trader in Italy was selling for €50 + p&p . . . in the end, I got it from HK (not a fakie) for a little under £28 all inclusive.

I even buy most of my clothes from ebay, much cheapness (tho I have to buy any 2nd hand clothes).

    back to the bidding . . .

Its tops for selling... I've only bought two things off there but sold blimmin LOADS of stuff.

Its not my fault or problem if two bidders drive the price way up, its up to them if they want to pay £15 or more for a copy of Quake. I have, in the past, even e-mailed the winner and told them that you can find the same thing new for cheaper and I won't worry if they want back out of a deal but no, they ALWAYS go through.

Nowhere is the phrase "A fool and his money is soon parted" more apt.

Bargains exist on Ebay, however I fail to see why people have paid this much for 2 of the items I have sold on their:

    + Nokia 3410 used and locked to O2 = £42!!
...Hexus has shown you can have them new off the net of £18!!

    + Samsung SGH-A800 used, scratched to hell = £45!!

    ...I rest my case

I use Ebay for cheap PS2 games and cheap CD's, it has plenty of those

I agree, eBay has turned really crap and the thing that annoys me most is the idiots selling links to websites! and them stupid pyramid schemes, and you usually get at least one idiot bidding on them!
I know it may be hard to do, but it i think eBay should not allow an auction where there are no physical goods being sold.

It is pretty good for selling and was wondering if you lot have sold many high value items? I will probably be putting up a 17" LCD-TV on there soon and is there anything i should be aware of?
Only thing I don't like is that I estimated it will be about £13 in fees! (if it goes for about £300)

I dont think eBay is a rip off, its just stupid people who are bidding for products over the prices that can be found in shops. Bidding fever just gets hold of you.

I have bid on plenty of items on Ebay but only ever won one auction (Hauppauge WinTV card £10.50). I want a bargain and won't pay more than what I think is a bargain price. I am gobsmacked at the prices some people are willing to pay, way over the odds in most cases.

Thats up to them tho, what difference is it to you? If people want something bad enough to throw money at it, then fair doos.

It makes no difference to me whatsoever. If people want to blow their wad on something, then of course it's their choice entirely.

thats up to them tho. maybe they wanna increase their ebay feedback. maybe they live in some remote part of a remote country that no online retailers sell anything there, that ebay is the only hope of getting things. maybe they just cant be assed to look around internet shops or real shops all day long.

it is no different to going to a shop, buying something, then finding it cheaper down the road.
