'Life of Brian' was the pinnacle of Python's humour, no doubt. It remains in my list of top-ten favourite films, & I believe it was voted as Britain's favourite comedy film of all time not so long ago.
I do have my doubts about their 'comeback' though. The O2 is way too big a venue; I went to see Peter Gabriel there last month, and while the concert was great, the view from where I was sitting was definitely not. I was so far away from the stage that I ended up watching the show on the giant screen instead, which kind of defeats the object of going in the first place...

Ok, I'll kick it off:
"It's not pining, it's passed on! This parrot is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late parrot! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies! It's metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off the mortal coil, rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-parrot!"
I just wet myself .
"We are all individuals.
...(I'm not!)"
That was a Spike Milligan Ad-lib you know. He turned up on set one day and threw in the line.
Also the scene where Graham (Brian) appears naked on the balcony was rehearsed with him clothed so the crowd of local extras genuinely were surprised when he appeared in the buff.
MPFC is the sort of thing I grew up with - The Two Ronnies, 'Allo 'Allo, Blackadder, A Bit Of Fry And Laurie, Red Dwarf and so on. Yes, a lot of it is repetitive punchlining but so is most classic British comedy and as a young'un, that is what was funny.
I'll take one episode of anything above over the entire careers of Russel Brand and Jo Brand!!
Not sold on the MP comeback idea personally, but I won't argue if they want to give it a try...
Blessed are the cheesemakers!
"Glaive-glaive-glaive-guisarme-glaive?"
"I think you're drifting into another sketch, sir..."
It's not a gaming session until someone quotes Monty Python
The bottom line is that, for a lot of people, Monty Python has become embedded in our individual and collective psyche. Whether it's a desperate call of "help, help, I'm being oppressed" or a spontaneous chorus of "I'm a lumberjack", it's hard to find people who don't at least identify with the sketches, even if they don't necessarily share the humour.
OTOH, maybe Randall Munroe was more on the money than Rich Burlew as far as MPFC went: http://xkcd.com/16/
