Re: Any airline that allows you to carry on lots of stuff?

Josh just buy a 50l rucksack!

You will need, rain coat (when it rains there, well see my thread here: http://forums.hexus.net/photography-...-flooding.html ), good pair of shorts for warm weather, trousers for cold, if you go to say Sapa or Dalat you will want stuff for 5 degrees. So you will be needing a mix of shirts and trousers. If you are short it is easy to find lots of stuff that will fit but cost nothing out there, if you aren't short then it's only t-shirts you'll find.

If you've got say 4 days worth, plus undies, some sandles for the hot bit, but some boots for trecking, don't forget your aid kit (anti-malarials, emergency water sterilisation etc) then add in some useful stuff, little bit of paracord and duck tape, a silk sleeping bag liner, a sleeping bag. Don't forget nets. Or just a shedload of DEET.

Then going away you've space for water (and beer!). I was in Costworlds in Picadilly when a BBC nature presenter (I forget her name) came in once helping a friend buy some boots and a bag. She helped convince him that your boots are the most important item, then your bag (I had been preaching this for a while) she was also suggesting buying a tent as you never know when you'll want to go impulse camping.... Yeah I'm not that far gone yet. But think about it, the chargers for everything, a book or even just a kindle. It all adds up very quickly. A good rucksack will make it so much easier on holiday.

the loka is 37L. if i get a 50L i would not be able to use that as hand luggage for sure!

I dont plan to camp! if i bring tents and sleeping bags then i be carrying 20+kg throughout the trip!

I think you are underestimating how great the fstop loka bag is!

In terms of boots. what do u recommend? i got a pair of timbalands!

this is the jacket i will be bringing. lightweight and good quality stuff

Re: Any airline that allows you to carry on lots of stuff?

Miss understanding. For the 50l I mean for a checked bag, and put your camera bag inside it when moving about between towns.

My point was you probably need 30L of kit, before camera. If you are happy wearing the jacket when its hot and muggy, no problem, but you want a way of packing it realistically speaking for SGN and further south.

Boots? Something that dries quickly and is comfy for you, your foot will dictate anything else, myself I use Berghaus boots, but only because they fit, are waterproof and dry swiftishly.

Re: Any airline that allows you to carry on lots of stuff?

The Tilopa BC is safer if you are going to take it on the flight, but perhaps you may as well get the Satori if you are going to check-it in (again for what it's worth I've taken a non fully loaded Satori onboard)? For multiple days, and assuming you are not checking-in another suitcase, the space will come in handy. Also if you ever go to a colder place, and need to carry more clothes, the Satori will give you more room to play with.

For boots, I suggest going to a shop that deals with outdoor gears and try every boots for your intended purpose. As TheAnimus said, your foot dictates everything. Before I bought my first proper hiking boots, and I spent hours online reading outdoor gear reviews trying to find about the reputation of various brands, the wonderful technology of the boot (according to marketing material), and made a fairly comprehensive list of brands/models I wanted to try. I brought the list to the store, tried them all, and *none* of them were perfectly comfortable. If it's not perfectly comfortable in store, it's most likely not going to be comfortable after 30+km. In fact, as I learned, perfectly comfortable in store still doesn't guarantee comfort after a long distance. My tip though, is to get half a size bigger than what you think is "just right" in store. Your feet will expand after 20-30km or so, and as I learned the hard way, darn constricted feet can hurt.

That should in theory help with the weight a bit better. Saya round 10kg and the bag will be smaller then the fstop loka thust giving the people at the airport the illusion that the bag is light and no need to check it.

The bag is small enough to be put in front of me at teh bottom of the seat. Like a large size womans bag lol.

Edit: i would be tempted to instead use my think tank retro 20 but when collapsed it wont fit inside my backpack later on
You could just buy a holster case for your camera, and standard lense and put it around your neck. Any airline will just ignore that.

Here is the Canon padded case for your 70-200MM:
    http://www.parkcameras.com/22551/Can...FY3LtAodcAsAVw

Canon soft pouch for your 16-35MM:

    http://www.parkcameras.com/22552/Can...se-LP1319.html

I don't bother with camera bags that often,as I have cases for most of my lenses. Plonk a hard case on your iPad,and put the whole lot in a normal rucksack.

The 70-200MM weighs 1.5KG and the 16-35MM weighs 640G. Even with the cases and the ruck sack you should be under 10KG easily IMHO.

i was thinking about that the other day when i was in my home studio and saw the two cases for my lenses. i think i even have one for my 24-70.

Yes i dnt really wanna bring a camera bag as it takes up a lot of bulk to be fitted inside my rucksake.

For carry on it often depends on the weight limits for the bins of the Type in service.

Ah, yes, my bad - I interpreted carry on as 'accompanied'. 20Kg for hold luggage, variable on cabin luggage. Best I saw was the only limits were size and that you could lift it into the overhead unaided. Again schedule flights (particularly if you you are flying premium or above classes) will allow you to take on more, but it might be stowed in a cabin locker elsewhere in the cabin, so not accessible during the flight, but not at the mercy of baggage handlers!
