well, some hope so i'm sure.

shame really, the country itself is magnificent...rockies, grand canyon, huge forests, wild rivers. can't really beat it on many fronts, shame its so damn far away and its now virtually imposible to get to thanks to dubya's foreign policies. have to get some visa from the us embassy now just for a holiday, what happened to that card you fill out on the plane??! talk about paranoid.

Look, I don't agree with the current American administration, policies, etc. I detest American arrogance. But tbh I'm getting a bit bored of people making sweeping and childish generalisations, such as 'All Americans are stupid', that they struggle to do do joined-up writing, and whatever else I've read on GD over the last few days. I don't think it says a lot about us.

If you want to criticise the Americans, by all means do so, but at least have the intelligence to make a valid argument. Making childish jibes and then attempting to suggest we're somehow morally superior is self-defeating.

This isn't aimed just at this thread (plenty of people here have made decent points), but I felt it was the best place to post it.

To this all I can say is, 'GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY'! I am not anti-american, nor am I anti-nuclear or a hippie. Don't even try to negate my argument by implying that my intelligence is on a par with that dimwit you call 'the President'. Personal attacks will be treated with the contempt they deserve.

You come on to a UK forum and start spouting about how you think it's unfair that the rest of the world flames the USA and then give us all perfect reason to continue flaming.

THE ACT OF USING WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION ON CIVILIAN POPULATIONS WAS THE WORST ATROCITY OF THE 20TH CENTURY. THE JAPANESE BOMBED PEARL HARBOUR BECAUSE THEY FEARED THAT THE WEST WERE COMING TO CONQUER THEM. THEY TOOK THE INITIATIVE AND ATTACKED.

The US people don't understand why they get attacked. It is due to the foreign policies as discussed above that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and Al Qaida decided to fly planes into buildings on 11/Sept/2001. People who feel oppressed (and quite rightly) will fight against that oppression. The USA is holding the world to ransom and they are hated for it.

    To quote a nation:

Don't get me started! I am almost as anti USA as Mr SilentDeath.
Such idiotic and belligerent posting only goes on to reinforce people’s stereotypes. You are acting out the same stereotypes that people see in the yanks.

If you had bothered coming here and trying to get an interesting informative debate on the issue, maybe things would have turned out differently. Coming here (Metaphorically) shouting USA USA USA USA USA ad infinitum is just going to loose you respect very rapidly.

We have a few American posters (Myth for one) on this board and they are intelligent individuals who don't go flag waving or empire building. They debate and rationalise. They are sensitive to other cultures. THIS garners respect and reflects well on your countrymen where as what you have done is pathetic, idiotic, annoying and gives people an excuse to bash the US.

I highly doubt that. In fact I would put down a good sized bet that anything
pro-America would be dragged down to name calling and personal attacks
against either myself or anything remotely U.S.A.

As I stated earlier, the main point of this thread was to have a little positive
to go against the huge amount of negativity. As usual, it degrades into
moronic stereotyping and just plain out and out stupidity.

Since this is a "U.K." forum, and I have had my fill of the mostly negative
attitude coming from that direction...(You guys still pissed because we kicked
your arse in 1776? )...I'll decline any further comment in this thread.

    And probably any other ones.

So...12 posts and a blatant troll later, BMG_TARANTELLA spits his dummy out. Don't let the door hit your backside...

By the way, I'm not anti-American. On current evidence I think that approximately 49% of the US are fantastic, intelligent, enlightened and sensible people. It's just a shame about the other 51%.

The thing that winds me up about SOME americans is the arogance they have about their country, I am English I love England like I could never love another country, I am passionate about everything its achieved, but to be honest when I look at it, its sh*t, weather is aweful, prices are ridiculous, we follow the yanks around like a puppy dog and have no real economical clout.

Some americans just don't see that, they see their own country as being the best thing since sliced bread and don't seem to want to know different.

Its one thing to be patriotic but its another to be so short sited because of it.

GWB was asked to name on thing he regrets, couldn't think of one, thats the sort of arogance.

You have to be congratulated for starting it. Your belligerence knows no bounds.

Might be wise. Perhaps you should think carefully next time, before shooting off into another morass of idiocy....

You were the one using name calling and personal attacks. We responded with well thought out responses that were neither childish (as name calling is) or personal, with the exception of the fact that I told you where to go in response to this offensive comment:

Try telling that to the victims in Dresden and Hamburg when the British created a firestorm. More people died then than in either Atomic Attacks. Ok so it took a good few more bombs to do it but the effect was as bad.

Atomic Bombs on Japan, biggest life saver of the War. Japan would not have surrendered period. A Land invasion of Japan would have seen a death toll of millions women, children and old men would have taken arms.

Yes the US stayed out of the 2nd War and that was down to politics pure and simple, till they were attack. US shown no signs of trying to invade Japan at that time.

Im far from Pro USA but at the same time I have to agree when I hear comments like all Americans are thick etc on radio phone ins etc I sigh at the folly of people been judgmental

Argumentum ad hominem, I'm afraid, Richard; attack the man not the point, and don't be too respectful of the truth while you do it. Colour Mr. Tarantella our very own Swift Boat Veteran for Bullsh^H^H^H^H^H^H^HTruth...

After the Baedekker Raids and the adoption of "Coventrate" as a verb by the Luftwaffe, personally I don't get too worked up about either. Dresden is unfortunate since it didn't have military significance, but Hamburg was a major centre of strategic industry.

Anyway, that's too OT. Lets get back to teasing BMG_TARANTELLA, shall we? Much more fun...

Aye just giving examples, lets face it any conflict that claims 50 million lives all sides share a burden of shame for acts commited. Some more than others.
