    Question HDDs on their side?

Having trouble fitting two old 2Gb Seagate drives in a case modding project I'm doing (will post pics when I'm finished ). I was just wondering is it ok to mount them on their side?

All Lian-Li cases have HDD racks at the bottom which mount hard drives like this, so I'd say it's fine.

Also, Dell, HP etc mount them on the front of the case (ie, not flat).

I used to run a PC on its side, and it ran fine for ages.

Yup, it is fine. Infact, if an hdd is dead because it isn't spinning up properly, putting it on its side is a suggested way of reviving it for a bit, as stress is placed on a different part of the spindle.
