You could take a life-times supply of heroin and then you don't have to worry about N.I., the NHS or painkillers.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

so if you go 10 times, your looking at like 30k
providing that it only takes 10 to get rid of it (which it probably wont + it may come back)
and thats if its operable, if its not your talking silly money.
Most forms of lung, mouth and throat cancer are operable though are they not? Besides, 30k is less than a third of what i'll pay in and thats based on me working part time not on me getting a £20k a year job.

    Smokers pay they're debts.

True, currently you reckon knox will pay 110k in tax....well hes part time, when he has a full time job, tax will be a LOT more

ontop of that ciggies tax, in our lifetimes, combined with inflation and whatever else i wouldnt be suprised that in the not to distant future theyll be 10 quid for 20....

Id say 200k at least, probably a lot more, and as already said not everyone catches cancer, its just under 1 in 3 so say its 250k in taxes for knox ? Thats 800K in taxes in 3 and a bit people, with only one contractive cancer?

Don't take offence mate, not trying to make you look bad, its purely about my grudge against societys persecution of smokers at the moment because I don't see why I should be made to feel bad for enjoying a cigarette consideratly.

They wanted no smoking on planes, we gave it to em, no smoking in restaurants, fine, no smoking in the workplace, ok, and now we can't smoke in pubs. The way its going your only gonna be able to smoke in your house in the dark under a blanket.

Yes I know it causes cancer and it smells but I make a distinct effort not to smoke near people that don't or blow it in someones face so I don't really like being treated like a leper in public tbh.

i understand what you mean knox. but the reason they are trying to stop smoking in public area's imo isnt against smokers, its for the people who dont smoke.

but theres protection and then there's knee jerk reactions (alchohol prohibition in the u.s anyone?) something our government seems to be getting better and better at as the days pass.

I don't have a problem with smokers per-se, as long as it's not around my kids. Personally, I've never smoked because I never saw the point, but I dont avoid people that do. I do however thing the whole smoking ban thing has gone way ott & encroached apon people's freedom.

But if you get cancer just don't whine about it. Tuff.

should smokers be made to take out 'smoking health insurance' ? Just a suggestion form my District & Marie Curie Nurse wife.

I'm glad they are banning smoking in pubs as I suffer from v.bad asthma and sometimes when I come back from a simple pint with mates it makes me weasy and tight chested. Thats not my choice and I can't help that I have asthma so why should I have to put up with someone elses filthy habit?

Back to the question in hand,

Anyone brought in under the influence (whether it be alcohol or drugs) should be billed for their balatant waste of NHS time and money and that can then be put to helping genuine cases

Bit of a sweeping statement, but sound principle. Someone may have mental health problems if brought in in such a condition.

I know where you're coming from Must be a drain on resources. Not to mention thoroughly annoying for hospital staff.
