Yeah the puny DIY sacks you get from Homebase are but I mean the ones builders use. Sacks of coal are around 40 or 50kg too.

They're certainly heavy but two people should be able to handle 56Kg easily enough.

Thing is, a bag of cement, or coal is significantly easier to handle than a rigid box... especially one you have to slot into something else... a sack of coal/cement can be lumped on yer shoulder, and lumped down again... hate lifting bloody awkward boxes everywhere. photocopiers are the devils own.. all sharp edges and unbalanced handles

True, but i was suggesting nichomach get someone to help him and with two people it is much easier to handle a rigid box than a flexible sack.

Saying that I agree with you about awkward heavy equipment. I once had to carry a 23" Tv about a mile across town and the damn thing was the most awkward shape with no good hand grips and all nasty edges sticking in to you . I honestly considered throwing it in the river at one stage .

Jeez, the thread starts as a moan about how heavy a UPS and rapidly slides into a discussion about cement bag weights....

Is this the digital version of leaning on our cars on a Saturday morning drinking tea and talking about the best A road route to Brighton?

    Superb!

(and if it is, anyone fancy a pint after Match of the Day?)

Yeh but a sack of cement isnt square, rock hard metal, with sharp corners, and sharp edges, and pain.. oh so much pain.. :|

And you dont have to hold the sack of cement up with one arm whilst you screw 4 screws in to an equally rock hard jagged edged metal rack case

I have to say they are deceptivly heavy.. i had to put our new HP UPS units into our racks on my own. after realising i was NOT lifting these things i cut them out of their boxes, slid them accross the floor of the server room and then onto their mounts at the bottom of the rack.

Really wish i had realised they were that heavy, then i would of said that I was going to need a hand after all.. the joys of coming into the office on a saturday to do these things, then have litterally no help because no one else is in due to the fact the servers will be down!

Well, Mr SmartUPS has now been wrestled in to submission by yours truly, and is racked and happy. I am now going to go and put my arms back in their sockets where they should be and use them to lift a glass of something refreshingly toxic . Oh, and Big RICHARD? I'd watch that sexuality-based insecurity if I were you...
