    Schools & Weather

Everyone with kids on here know this one !

Our 3 were off on Monday as some of the teachers couldnt get in due to snow, fair enough.

However, we rang the school this morning as we got it heavy last night and lo & behold they are off again today (they were there yesterday) reason for them not going today is because there is apparently going to be a blizzard this afternoon at some point.

Ours are going mental at the min, in and out the house constantly trailing water right through everywhere. They want to be outside but it is snowing lightly at the min so decided to bring them in.

Makes you wonder how people in Siberia manage on a day to day basis, bet their schools are virtually always open. Slightest thing here and they seem to be off.

Just go and tear the rest of my hair out now methinks !

Schools always seem to assume that at least one parent doesn't work or can instantly take time off if schools close. I'm with Ferral tho, the merest hint of snow & they shut up shop. Other countries manage, Alaska, Canada, Northern Russia etc... bunch of girly wusses!

Yes, but snow these days isn't a common occurance, Britons don't like change.. And Lots o' white stuff is quite a big change. Esp. for some of us who are driving in their first winter and almost take out the barrier in the works car park trying to slow down... eek.

Most countries cope becasue they haven't got a choice. We just see it as an excuse to have a day off, without having to phone in sick

I remember when I was at school Ferral, many moons ago.
Our "Global warning awareness day" was cancelled due to the teachers not being able to get to the school due to snow.

They didn’t live that one down for a long time

    LMAO

I'm sure that has never happened to me although i have had time off school because the boiler broke and there was no heating. Maybe it's because I live in the South West, we didn't get any snow recently even though it was forecast.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Waiting to take off on a plane to NY at Heathrow after a day of delays, one de-icing machien + lots of planes + no air-con + 1 bag of pretzels + 1 bottle of water over 4 hours + after getting one wing de-iced told to all get off at 2am with nothing but an empty counter and a phone with some ever-engaged no to greet us and end up sleeping on the floor in front of a terminal lift for the night! British Airways And Heathrow one of, if not 'the' biggest airport in the world has only one de-icing machien! All this after half inch of snow me no likey

I'm still waiting for the snow to get heavy enough to get a day off. We have had days off due to the snow in the past though.

Think the schools are more worried about kids getting stuck there later in the day, unlike places that get snow more often we dont legally have to carry snow chains in our vehicles, also most people wouldnt know what to do with them if they did. The cars and tyres we use are not suited to snow + ice.

Just wondering what it will be tomorrow, kids are off incase theres an alien invasion possibly (guess it could happen 1 day ! )

Just seems that they are off for no real reason at the best of times, we still havnt had this blizzard this afternoon, just a mild snow shower. So the kids were off for no reason at all. Hopefully they will be there tommorow. They've been going stir crazy today at a loss for what to do (kids always do no matter what though ! )

Our school lost electricity once so they hired a generator. We hardly ever get a day off.

I'm with Flibb with this one.

Last time there was bad weather last year it took me 3 hours to go less than 4 miles after work, now imagine you were at a school with 400 pupils, some of the parents who were stuck in bad weather may not get there till about 10pm!!

PS, my better half is a teacher
