I've just recieved a court order

    ...and I don't know why...

    - They've mis-spelled my surname

    - It dates back to 17.07.2002

    - 'Keeper of vehicle fail to give info.(S29 VERA '94)
    FCPC 35.00
    FO 140.00

    total amount outstanding £ : 175.00

Strange thing is I've never received any correspondance over this until I came home tonight , I have no idea what its for or what it relates to.

Apparently I have 7 days before the police can arrest me or a baliff seizes my goods

    What have I done !!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

It means a driver of a vehicle with your number plate has been stopped, and been given a 'producer', a bit of paper requiring them to produce drivers licence, V5, Insurance documents or any other bits. The driver hasn't, and a court (probably in his absence) has decided to fine him.

This sounds to me like your car has been 'cloned'. Basically someone else had copies of your numberplate made up and fixed them on his car, of the same model. He then drove around merrily immune from such things as speed cameras and insurance. He was stopped, got his bit of paper, which he probably chucked out of the window, and is still driving around oblivious.

What does strike me as strange is that this is the first you've heard of it. I would have expected a summons to the court hearing, and if the car had been cloned, than a few speeding NIP's at the very least. I heard about a guy who was getting 5-6 a week. He had to give his car to his dealer to keep locked up to prove it was someone else using his registration.

Call the court and speak to the Clerk of The Justices (as he/she is the court administrator) and explain the situation, he or she will be able to shed some light on it.
Then if its not you that was stopped and can prove get all the evidence together and fax over to them or best still get down there ASAP and sort it out.

    Hope that helps.
    Perry.

OK - about 6 phonecalls later, heres the update.

The offence was committed on the M25 at Colnbrook , Berks, on 21/1/2002 at 12.01 AM - speeding on camera apparently.

My first and only correspondance has been this court order dated 18/7/2002.

I've been advised by the issuing office to set a court date and plead a 'Statutory Declaration' where I can state that having had no correspondance at all for 14 moths on the matter, it should be dropped.

So thats me - in court - on 8th December - 9.30 AM

    Terrific

no idea m8, they won't say. No mention of points or anything on this paperwork - just a £35.00 sum and an extra £140.00 from somewhere...
