The app is apparently to be trialled in the Isle of Wight this week. So we're getting close to finding out how many people will d/l and use this.

I think a lot of people worry about giving the government an 'in' that will then open the doors to full on people tracking. Not that they probably aren't doing that now.

I'd like to install it but not sure what else would be done with the information.

The fact that the UK Gov doesn't want to use something like the decentralised Apple-Google API means it's an instant no for me.

Re: NHS "contact-tracing" app .... would you?

Yeah, i'm unsure what the reasoning, medically and or statistically, is behind the Government going down a different route and not using a decentralised system like is being used in other countries.

Also, why are they intending to rely on self diagnosis and not the result of testing like in other countries? That's just another subjective variable that seems unnecessary.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

Maybe they are looking to the future?

"Did the coronavirus app tell you you have Corona?", "Were you misdiagnosed?", "If so call now and get the compensation you deserve"

Serco are in pole position to get the contract to run this app for the government.

Fairly obviously its because they want the data for something, that isnt paranoia or conspiracy theory, its just expected.

Because self diagnosis is a) instant and b) free, even if it is c) unreliable.

Assuming, of course, that declaring yourself infected doesnt result in a visit from a hazmat team and a bludgeoning if you misreported yourself.

so might relying on this app government.

    edit: fixed it...

seriously to put a different slant on it when other countries are doing the equivalent of enforcing abstinence or at least being thorough about handing out spermicide and proven prophylatics our lot denied there was anything to worry about, and now are fannying around and suggesting we use sheep's intestines while hoping they can gather some data on whether they actually work on the side.

Can't bludgeon me if you don't know it was me that did it... Besides, my PPE comes with capacitive fingertip gloves, so we can still use our touchscreen devices. We're exposed to far worse things than NovelCOronaVirusDisease-2019... and with far scarier names!
