Do you think Hexus/Msi might want to combine it with a gpu they think will fit the bill for a minimal noise machine (without resorting to passive as it is also used for gaming) ? I am prepared to spend the interim time practising my ducking and diving to avoid the incoming swings from Mrs ik9000 when I tell her...

It would be going up against a 1GB GTX460SO (this one to be precise) but to get my endorsement it needs to be as quiet as that one when gaming/under load, free from coil whine, and to beat it in the range of games and benchmarks I'd be throwing at it.

You/they can also send some fans too for that matter if they want them in my fan showdown?

From the rough comparative graph on here: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-spec...e-gtx-460.c265

The integrated graphics in a 2400G is the same speed as a GTX460 , giving GPU and CPU under the same integrated water cooling

Edit: I guess what you really want is to water cool one of these: https://www.ebuyer.com/990072-xenta-...sktop-xr-d5161

well you say that, but I supsect 2400G would not sustain multi-hour gaming at max settings without showing the strains and some throttling. This thing stays so quiet, and that is the key thing for me. Performance without noise.

Also I really don't want to watercool anything. Not that I'm against it, but i'ts 2020 and quiet computing ought to be possible for the common man/woman, not just those prepared to risk leaks and semi-regular coolant top-ups.

OK, the watercooling comment was just from the context of this thread for a benchmarking exercise, so feel happy to scratch that.

But if your system spec to the left is up to date and you still have an i7 870, then that 95W TDP part coupled with maybe 150W of GPU can now both be replaced with a 65W 4750G which is running 8 cores/16 threads and won't be held back by 1GB of vram. That APU 65W should be really easy to cool to whisper quiet, and if it's cool it won't throttle.

You could probably take the fans off the liquid cooler and it would still easily handle a 65W APU

Depending on how easy it is to do so I might test that theory.

There are huge heatpipe air coolers that claim to be able to handle more heat than that passively, though I always figured you need at least one decent case fan to move some air around if doing that.

I presume the GPU got replaced as well?? First time I read that I read RX570. Is it just me or it there some really confusing deja-vue part numbers atm. 5700 is a graphics card, 5800 is a cpu, so it isn't getting any better.

can anyone actually buy the 4750G (or any 4xxxG) for that matter? I thought they were making them OEM only for some crazy reason (probably supply limitation)

Only via dodgy looking imports from China, and/or at inflated prices. Hence that Xenta machine is tempting if you have use of some cheap other bits.

Shame B550 doesn't support the Athlon 3000G that such a cheap machine otherwise would seem ideal for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUTcj_7sQ40

It would be going up against a 1GB GTX460SO (this one to be precise) but to get my endorsement it needs to be as quiet as that one when gaming/under load, free from coil whine, and to beat it in the range of games and benchmarks I'd be throwing at it.

You/they can also send some fans too for that matter if they want them in my fan showdown?
wow, Zak I've got to say I admire your efforts in securing an MSI GPU to facilitate this! https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020...olen-in-china/ It'll be hard to pass this up with one of those involved nevermind 224 of them!
