Okay, this is rather strange and I can't quite believe it.

Apparently, me and 25 other people who claim either jsa or income support at our local job centre are having our claim stopped for a fortnight due to an expense that a new job centre employee brought.

The new employee apparently weighs 30stone and needs a chair made for her out of re-inforced titanium because the current one cannot withstand the weight. The cost is thought to be over £2000 for the chair alone and labour costing upwards of £500 means 7 other unexpecting 'job seekers' who haven't yet been informed of the madness also have two weeks with no money!

I for one, cannot see why this should come out of seemingly random people's money that they're intitled to...they should have thought about the problem before employing such an overweight heffer.

I will be going to the local citizens advice bureaux tomorrow with a few others to try and see if the job centre has the right to do this stupidity.

I think I will pop in and try to speak to the manager about it with a few others in the same situation after Ive got some advice from the CAB..I called the job centre earlier and they couldn't tell me anything, the manager they say I need to speak to wasn't there.

I recieved a letter from the manager of the local job centre this morning...it does sound like a wind up to me too but as the letter was on headed paper from the job centre and it is signed in exactly the same way by the manager as other letters recieved previously it let me to believe there is more to it, but it's still possible someones winding me up. I guess I'll hopefully find out for sure tomorrow.

Steel is just as strong as Titanium. It's simply that Titanium has a greater strength to weight ratio. i.e weighs less similar strength. (Yes I'm simplifying, but us metallurgists will complicate if required)

Me thinks you have been had as JSA would certainly not be stopped for that reason. You are entitled to it regardless of whom they employ but,

Write back and ask them whether the Titanium chair will be re-inforced with Boron Carbide (B4C) continous fibres or Boron Carbide whiskers, because the difference in cost is considerable.

Can you scan the letter and post it here. Me thinks compensation can be had due to the stress, anxiety, loss of allowances etc that this has entailed

If it's an employee taking the piss then you certainly want to ensure that whomever has done it gets a right b*ll***ing.
