Well I'd say it's kinder not to make them suffocate.

Only fishing I've ever done is sea fishing for mackerel about 13 years ago- which suits me, since I really don't like the taste of freshwater fish. The one mackerel I caught was very tasty indeed, and I enjoyed flinging the bait 50 yards out to sea a lot.
