    jobs after uni

hi i currently study computer science and just about 2 finish my 2nd year and do my final year 2005/2006 i was wondering how hard or easy it is for me 2 get a job straight after uni and the best possible wa to get a job and its requirements.

all i been hearing is that its very hard 2 get a job even with a decent degree. i dont go to the best uni in london but its pretty decent still and is aiming 2 get a 2:1

Most companies like a little experience under a persons belt hence why computer science students usually do industrial placement year (as i'm doing next year). In fact, at my uni, 91% of students in the computer and math department (that's computer science, software engineering, computing etc.) do an industrial placement year. 91% is basically all of us. Apparently a lot of those secure a job on their industrial placement year as well.

Did you do a year in industry?

I finished my degree last week and am already job hunting, there are loads of jobs out there but experience is a must. Its that catch 22 thing were you need a job to give you experience. There are however loads of graduate jobs which you can apply to.

    take a look at milkround.com

yeah a graduate scheme is the best way to get in. lots of companies do them, and i'm very happy with mine - the pay isnt awesome, but money isnt everything..

you'll struggle to get a job however, 6 months after we finished i was the only one of my group of freinds who was employed. i would start looking in the first month of your final year - the best positions go by xmas

I think first tip would be to start looking early. Most of the large graduate training schemes want applications in before Christmas to start in the summer the following year.

I didn't do this and by the time I graduated it was too late to find anything decent. I ended up doing a masters just because I couldn't find a suitable job. However, I learnt my lesson and started looking almost immediately after starting my Masters. I found something ideal pretty fast and now I've been with the company for nearly a year.

What are you looking to do in IT?

A good idea is to offer yourself free to smaller companies for a day a couple of days a week to get experience.

best bet is college or uni's during the summer breaks this s when they are most busy and would like a hand.

A friend of mine applied for the John Lewis one this year. It looked very good and you got to work with a lot of different technologies. However, competition for the few places they hard was very tough.

You can't get the job unless you apply though. Good luck.

£20-£25k is what I'd expect for a decent graduate IT job in London. It's only really the IT support kind of roles that pay peanuts.

And he didn't get the job, no.
