Skype - But now with video!!

    Hellos there

Just sharing the wonderful news that as of around the start of this month you can now have video-chat over Skype!

All you need is a webcam, Skype and this handy little free plugin:

    http://www.video4skype.com/

Then once its installed and running, when you start a conversation with anyone it will tell you if they also have the plugin - if they do you can request video as well, if not then you can invite them to use it also.

Only drawback atm is that you can only have a single video link at any one time. However, if theres only one other person in a conference with video4skype, then you can video to them and keep talking with everyone else as well!

    Bingo.

That's pretty cool. Although I've been using TS for chatting recently, as it;s just easier.

Skype's still better than TS for calling people in place of a phone. As long as you get a good node, it can be better than the BT lines. I wonder id skype will make an offical vid system?

Wow looks good may have to give it a try!.. As I have been using Skype quite a bit recently.. Its a very good program!.. Even got my Dad well into it!.. So this Video feature is the only thing I thought it was missing..

So as trippledence said I wonder whether Skype will add this feature in their next build?.. Would be another handy feature which is sure to entice more people, although their concentration is purely on VoIP.. Soo maybe not.

    Thanks for the link!

Video over internet protocol, they could call it Voip...

It would be cool to see computer to 3g phone video calls in the future, if any ones gonna do it, skype have a good chance. I bet the mobile networkds wouldnt be in on it tho.

Post skype video and video mail direct

I noticed some discussion around skype video. I know it's limited to a one-to-one hook up. Has anyone heard of helloworld? Helloworld instant messenger allows users to speak face to face with 4 - 6 other people at the same time (minimum of 4, possibly 6 depending on bandwith). Each person appears on screen. Helloworld incorporates this product in a user interface with video email, broadcasting etc?

    Has anyone used these products?
I joined through a friend some time ago and have been very happy with all of their products.

I've never used skype video but would be interested to know if anyone has used the two, and how they compared.
