I would say laptop, a cheap laptop then you might not game on so much and thus get better grades. Just speaking for experience, thats all

    I wish i had gone laptop at uni;

DVD's on the train home at weekends.
Doing work in the park/beer garden in summer.
Being able on go home a feel less guilty because you can work there too.
More security as you can take it home for the hols with you.
Taking it into college, jacking into the uni network and using thier uber bandwidth.
Easier in a small flat/uni halls.
Easier to move with (you will probably move about 3 times).
Taking it around you class mates when doing group projects etc.

Yeah, a SFF would be very nice and a good chioce, but from experience I wish i had gone down the laptop route myself. The only thing is the cost.

you cant do work outside, cos you wont see the screen.
dvds are nice, but most cheap laptop batteries wont see you past an hour and a half if you're using the dvd drive..

tbh i'm fairly anti-laptop generally now - i used to have a very very slim n sexy one (which i barely used at uni), but now work have given me one, all the appeal is gone..

I think if you have a fairly beefy desktop to start with, you may despise the idea of a laptop as your only machine. Loss of performance, screen size, and comfort (although i much prefer laptop keyboards to desktop ones.)

I only used to have a family PC in my house up until about 4 years ago when i decided to buy myself a laptop and get away from the living room. Haven't looked back since. Must be because i mainly game on consoles so my PC has never needed that much power.

I have friends with big powerful PCs and i play on them often enough but don't feel the need to have one myself, especially not if i had to give up my laptop for one.

But like i've said before i now have the best of both worlds with a laptop that can handle games and can be easily carried.

I disagree, i have used plenty of laptops outdoors. It's not as nice but still very usable.

Then rip them to divx. Most laptops can last up to 2.5 - 3 hours these days. Could buy a second battery. Some trains have laptop powe******s too now.

Eh? Why did the forum blank out the word powe******s?

EDIT: Bizzare. When did the word 'r p o i n t' sneak into the dictionary as a swear word?

tbh I have NO idea what you're talking about. I thought that word was "socket" but maybe not. Type the word with spaces between the letters! (unless it actually is rude).

    Mainly just browsing Forums, lol!

    Also:
    MSN (in back ground, always)
    Unreal Tournament (origanal)
    NFSu
    Word/excel
    Basic image work (PSP/fireworks)
    Websites, dreamweaver (hence twin screens)
    Recording/watching TV (a bit)

My PC is per my sig, and that will run all i want it too.

Notebook - some really good prices at www.acernotebooks.co.uk

You can take a notebook out with you, transport it easily & use wireless wherever you go that has it. Also I have found a notebook really good for use on the train

Just go for as small a screen as you can, that'll be easily portable and should cope for your small gaming - or just use your desktop at home when you're there.

Going by that you can easily find a laptop that does it all. However, considering the fast pace of Unreal, maybe the screen will slow you down a little, not sure. I can play FPs games fine on mine, but i bet some other laptops aren't so good, especially if you come from a CRT or decent TFT.

You'll need to make sure its packing a good graphics card, 128mb of real video ram. And you'll need to research on that "Recording/watching TV" thing, that won't be a standard feature on most laptops.

I can wholeheartedly recommend a laptop to you over a desktop
