    Reporting eBay Scammers

    Hello,

I put a W800 on eBay as I upgraded to it but I am just using my old handset.

Low and behold it has been bought on a buy it now and the guy want's it sent to nigeria

How do I report this to eBay so I don't have to pay my relisting fee.

All I can see is the option to dispute it which apparently sends a reminder to the buyer.

    Thanks for any advice guys

Well if he's willing to pay, send it. Alot of old phones are recycled by charities & sent out to developing nations for providing comunication in remote areas.

If he's not willing to pay then tell them to knob-off & report it do e-bay.

The only way to sort this out is to wait 7 days then file a none-paying bidder report - that is if he doesnt offer to pay you via any of your accepted methods. For example if, like 99.999% of scammers do, he offers to pay via western union, you can just tell him no, bankXfer/cash/cheque only (or whatever you specified). Then if he hasnt paid file a report, and you get your final value fee and relisting fee back.

Thats the only official way to solve situations like this afaik, but if he is a scammer, report him to Western Union (if thats how he tries to pay, they want to know trust me) and also ring the police if you are certain enough - i know it seems overkill but i've filed 2 reports so far, they can;t help unless they know whats going on

Just because the guy is from Nigeria doesn't automaticlly make him a scammer, god.

If he pays, make sure you get your money, then send it.

if its a cheque, pay it in a wait two weeks before sending.

if its paypal, only accept it if its from existing funds.

    otherwise, don't continue with it.

Agree with Matt on that one.

If its a cheque just send him a PM saying that the goods will be sent on clearance of the cheque, if its legit he shouldnt have any problems with that at all.

Very first time I used eBay I didnt realise you could pay via a debit card through Paypal, thought you had to be confirmed which takes 10 days and money in Paypal itself. Contacted the guy I was dealing with and he was great about it.

Get them to pay by nochex - Sucky for the buyer superb for the seller, their T&C's prevent chargebacks by the buyer.

I am not a racist but I have heard hundreds of stories about Nigerian buyers paying by Western Union transfers.

So I got an e-mail today, demanding I send by UPS, I didn't offer this.

And he wants to pay by Bidpay, which I again didn't put down as an option.

Bidpay is a well known scam system, especially if he advises you have to signup to anything.

UPS is also not a good sign, basically its going to cost you 3x royal mail and you ARE going to lose your product.

Express couriers lose ALOT and I do mean ALOT of money by going to Nigeria, so much so that some companies have additional checks just for shipments going to nigeria.

me, personally, Id walk away, but then again i would have done tha after 2 mins of the auction end.

I was always of the mind of walking away but I am hoping by going through these stages I won't have to pay to relist the item.

I had exactly the same problem when I sold a phone on ebay. He wanted to pay via Western Union & less than the buy it now price.

I reported him & left negative feedback stating suspected scammer. I was also contacted buy other sellers who he'd try to laptops off & other high value goods.

Next time state "no shipment outside UK or to friends, relatives etc"

And to the person who said just because he's from Nigeria doesn't make him a scammer. Sorry but in my book it does. Harsh I know, but statistics will back me up on this.
