I haven't seen the ad, but if it's misleading complain to the ASA. I (and some other spods) complained about the Cillit Bang ad and they pulled it and changed it around a bit.

    i agree with that comment.

if you ARE lookin to sue then.. if you can access it ANYWHERE, what happens if u dont have a wireless router in your home, im guessin that counts as anywhere and they do not state that you require this router to access the connection

but it is very american... and pretty greed driven which IMO is not what we want the UK to become like tbh..

the choice is yours the american way.. or OUR way

No offence, but i think some people need to get out of the house more

But having said that, it does amuse me no end. I was in Dixons (the same company as PC world) a while back (sizing up a TV i was going to by online for about half the price) a listened in amazement at a salesman tell some poor lady that "The more gigabytes the harddrive has the faster the PC will go". The lady replied, "Internet?". He replied, "Yeah, the internet will go faster". She then asked about broadband, to which he replied "Oh, that just for music and videos".

I guess you're all missing the point anyway... It isn't the Intel Centrino Technology that gives you the net access anywhere... so it's doubly wrong... just like thos stupid claims that Intel somehow made the net faster... Nothing to do with my 56K modem then? That's me put straight, I'll go by an Intel CPU.

Anyway, if it bothers you that much, compain to the ASA... I've got better things to do like finish building my claim against Phil Tuffnel and the fact he's not at all qualified nor regulated to give me financial advice...

Sorry off topic but I'm bummed about having to pay more for stuff in the UK than the states. An easy example to find would be something from Dell.
    Rhyth is selling:
Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di ll LD Aspherical (IF) £230 +pp
    Canon 50mm 1.8 II £50 +pp
    Proven good copies.

Frankly, I don't see how companies like PC World have got away with their misleading advertisements for so long. Granted, they are not 'technically' lying by saying 'high tech' etc, but they over-exagerating their products. Now of course, they've gone over the line by actually stating false details. How can they justify that 'a connection wherever you are' is the same as 'a connection when connected to a hotspot/network'. I hope one of the people who will undoubtedly go out and buy this product after seeing the advertisement, realise they have been conned, and do something about it

What exactly is stopping you complaining to the ASA as per my previous post?

I have Rave, I merely think PC World would take notice more if someone actually started legal proceedings against them.

The procedure is to contact the ASA, who will then censure PC World for making misleading claims. They then put a 14 line disclaimer (vertical display lines, not lines of text or point size) explaining the situation on screen.

The real question is... what price were they advertising it at, and where was the offer availalbe. The laptop described was selling online from their store at 599. I wasn't paying attention, but I think they specifically said under 500. If that's the case and the prices aren't matched both instore and online, then they'll be fined.

I'm not sure about the pricing Scottyman, but when I next see the advert on TV, I'll find out.
